"This is Mr. Horan's room I'll bring Mr. Tomlinson in when he's been discharged." She opens the door
"Thank you" we go into the room
I lay flat on my back in my hospital room in terrible pain. The doctor told me I can't move at all because I could injure my spine further.
"Niall" I hear a British accent sigh. I would recognize the voice anywhere
"We were so worried about you two" Liam and Harry lean over me
"I'm fine, mostly. Have you seen Louis? How is he? They won't tell me anything!" I ask so worried it's my fault he's hurt
"He's fine. The nurse said he broke his hand and has some stitches. He's having a scan now and they're going to bring him in here after Paul's with him" Liam explains
"Thank god" I sigh
"Hello Mr. Horan" someone walks in
"Who is it?" I ask not being able to move my head cause of the neck brace
"The doctor" Harry says and they sit down next to me
"Hello gentleman I'm Dr. Pierce. I just got the results from your MRI scan Mr. Horan"
"And?" I ask
"Well you fractured your spine we're going have to operate" he says
"But I'll be alright right? I'm not paralyzed?" I ask because the nurse said I may be earlier
"Well that's what we need to talk about to about for the operation you would have to be laying on your stomach and as you know in your current state it's extremely risky to flip you. But I have another idea that wouldn't require have to flip you."
"So do that" Harry says
"I can but the risk of paralysis is still a factor and this approach to much more invasive. I would have to make an incision in your abdomen and get to your spine through your abdomen. It's a longer and more complicated surgery with a longer recovery time but it greatly lesions the chance of paralysis. The choice is up to you"
I think for a moment "do the more complicated one."
"Niall are you sure?" Liam asks worried
"I can take time off to recover but if I'm paralyzed I won't be able to perform ever. I can't take that chance" I explain
"Alright Ill schedule your operation to be in 1 hour" and with that he leaves
"Hello!" I hear Louis voice and I smile
"Hey Louis! How are you feeling?" The boys go up and hug him
"Not too bad just a broken hand" he comes over and sits next to me
"How are you feeling mate?" He rubs my shoulder
"Back hurts is all. I'm having surgery in an hour" I explain what to doctor told us about the operation
The doctors come in after an hour to bring me to surgery. Not going to lie I'm really nervous that I'll wake up paralyzed.
I say goodbye to the boys and the doctors move my bed into the operating theater.
"Okay Niall we're going to move onto the operating table now try not to move at all" Dr. Piece says through his mask
"'Kay"
"Alright on my count 1, 2, 3!" They pick up the board I've been laying on as gently lay me on the table.
I look around the room seeing tons of machines and big lights above me. A nurse sticks heart monitors to my cheesy and puts oxygen in my nose. Then she clips a pulse ox monitor to my finger and gives me and IV back of my hand
"Ready when you are doctor" she finishes telling Dr. Pierce
"Alright ready Niall?" He asks
I take a shaky breath "yes"
He nods to the doctor behind me and put a mask on my face.
"Count backwards from ten" he tells me once he's placed the mask over my nose and mouth
"10...9....8.....7......" black.
~* 6 Months Later *~
"Alright boys let's go!" Paul shouts at us and I walk out my bedroom in the hotel room
Yes I said walk! My operation went perfectly and I'm now officially back at work! Louis and I are both completely recovered well mostly. Louis still gets nervous in the car and I still haven't driven.
But I know one thing when I do drive again I will never look at my phone while I do ever again.
