This is not a story about some hero who saves the world. This isn't a story about how the villain gets to destroy his foe. Hell, this isn't even about an alien invasion, or a zombie apocalypse, or any other world-ending event. This story is about a guy; a straightforward guy who's always wanted to find someone he can love and cherish forever. His name is Geoff, and he thought he saw this mysterious thing called "love" in one particular girl. Then another. Then yet another. Then yet another. He tried to find the girl of his dreams so many times, but none of them had what he was looking for. He was a relatively simple guy. He had a great job and made good money, despite the economy being shit. He had a nice car. He still lived with his mom even though he was a 24-year-old man; however, that's how most young adults are these days. You also can't rule out the immense debt he accumulated, but that's beside the point.
Geoff may not be completely put together, but for the most part, he was normal. He loved video games; he read books, he wrote stories; he even did sports and exercised — occasionally. He was a kind and gentle soul, and everyone loved him. His friends cared about him, and his family took care of him. He, for the most part, was a pretty nice guy.
So why was his love life so complicated? And why couldn't he ever find someone good enough? His quest for love brought him to many different people. Some were really good, but others were not as good. Each girl left their impression on him, and he continued to become discouraged that he would never find what he was looking for. He wasn't looking for much. He wanted a girl who was funny, sweet, kind, you know, all the standard stuff. He wanted a nerdy girl who would sing and dance with him when they were feeling silly. He wanted someone with a killer body and an amazing personality to go with it.
Geoff searched high and low for the girl of his dreams. Until finally, he found someone. Her name was Brittney, and she was perfection incarnate. She had everything he wanted. The charm, the comedy, the sweetness, and the body. Especially the boobs; he liked those a lot. He loved her so much, and they did everything together. The best part was that she loved him back. It seemed like "the one" had finally shown her face. At least until the day that it all ended.
Geoff took the news like a bullet to the chest. The day he checked his phone and saw that Brittney wanted to end their relationship. He questioned why. He begged and pleaded for her to stay with him and promised that he would be better. But none of it mattered. She made up her mind and left him. His heart was broken, and it only got worse. He found out that she had met someone else and started dating them while she was still with him! Geoff never met the guy, but from the information he had, the guy was on a level higher than he was. His career was in order, his body much stronger and more refined; it was the whole nine yards with this man.
Geoff wasn't taking all this well. He started drinking again. He started sinking into a depression. He became more and more heartbroken with each passing day. The pain, the agony. It was all too much. He tried everything he could think of to ease the pain he felt, both conventional and unconventional. He took martial arts classes, worked out, drank, went to parties, and slept with random women off dating apps. All of this was useless, however; the pain was still there. The pain of losing this one was different. She was the one, and now she is gone.
One night, Geoff decided to walk to the nearest convenience store. After drowning his sorrows in alcohol and porn, he needed the fresh air. At least that's what he told himself as an excuse to buy more beer. The store was just a few blocks away; he grabbed a coat, put on some Crocs, and walked out his front door into the cold, December evening. As he began to cross the street to head in the direction of the store, he realized just how inebriated he was. His vision was blurred, and his head was pounding, but he continued walking.
Unfortunately, Geoff was so blind from the alcohol that he didn't realize he crossed the street at the wrong time. As he walked, he could see blurred light to his right side quickly approaching. He could hardly hear the muffled honks of a large semi-truck quickly approaching the intersection because of his drunken stupor. Geoff had only seconds to turn his face to see the grill of a truck inches from him before an excruciating pain was sent flooding his body. He only felt this surge of agony for a brief moment before he saw his entire 24 years of existence flash before his eyes, finalized by a bright light of nothingness to end his life on Earth as he knew it.
