Past or Future, all at Some Point will be Lost

First sightings

I am professor Daniel J. Williams , a history professor at Yale. I write this journal to document my thoughts on worrying events that are possibly happening around the world. I plan to use this journal to document these events with the purpose of creating enough initial research to convince the board to fund an official investigation into these events.

Our first recorded event, as far as I can currently find, is dated April 15, 2027. Around tree months ago from today. It was reported on the Amazonian forest in Brazil, by local fishermen who reported to have seen a serpent that was as long as large ship and as thick as a tree. They said they saw it as it swam beneath their boat and continuing down river. After reporting it to the authorities, the officers ignored their statement and took them as the mad ramblings of drunken sailors.

The second sighting was in Stavropol, Russia in May 19, 2027. A local farmer told the police of a creature that had been eating his livestock the past few days. He had thought it was only a wolf pack. He had prepared a trap and had even taken a post inside his house to snipe the wolves that tried to attack his farm again. He waited for hours, but know howls were heard, though he did hear something during the night. By the next morning he went to check the traps, only to find the remaining of several wolves scattered. They had been caught by the trap, but something got to them before the farmer could. The most interesting thing was that feathers were also scattered around. The farmer described them as too big for a normal bird, he said he had never seen such a bird that carried these feathers. The police again ignored the man and took it as a bear was responsible.

The last report is the one that convinced me of making this journal. June 29, 2027 in California, USA; a hiker was in the process of hiking the John Muir Trail. He had been hiking for 16 days and had not seen anyone for 2 days. Even animals were a rare sight, only finding the occasional deer or bird. But that day he claims to have seen a creature in the sky that was not natural to him. With the low charge in his phone he only managed to get a picture of the creature, although blurry and from far away. He founded it interesting and was planning to research about it to find what bird it was. He listed to its distinctive call and watched as it flew out of his view. After a few more miles of hiking, in another clearing he had found a backpack. It had once belonged to someone, though he feared that this person was no longer around to claim it. The backpack was tore open, the straps torn off, and stained with blood. It was obvious that whatever had done this had not cared for the bag but the one carrying it. The hiker searched the bag and found an id. And days later, he had reported it to a ranger, who had confirmed the person was missing for a week. He had posted the picture online once he finished the trail and shared his story of the events.

These reports trouble me, though I am unsure as to why. Part of me hopes there aren't more. But something tells me this is just the beginning.
