One month had passed since the end of the Blood War. With graduation from high school just around the corner and the town mercifully free of Hollow attacks, Ichigo and his friends finally had the breathing room to cherish the time they had left together.

At Orihime's apartment, the evening was quiet—until the silence was broken by a groan of realization.

"Aaah... I forgot to bring the red beans," Orihime muttered, setting her grocery bags down on the counter after walking home straight from school. She stared thoughtfully at the few items she had managed to grab. "I guess I'll just go with rice, tofu, and... some chocolate?"

She was halfway through organizing her meager ingredients for a solo dinner when a sudden, sharp ring of the doorbell echoed through the small entryway.

Umm, who could that be?

Expecting to see Tatsuki's familiar face, Orihime reached out and slid the door open with a soft smile. She barely had time to register who was standing there before a pair of arms shot forward, scooping her up and pulling her into an overwhelming, suffocating embrace.

"Rangiku-san?!"

Orihime gasped, her voice instantly muffled as she found herself pressed firmly against Rangiku's chest, entirely caught off guard by the unexpected visitor.

"Ohhh, my cutie! I missed you so much!" the tall, strawberry-blonde woman sang out, swaying Orihime left and right in her arms with pure,  excitement.

Even though she was being thoroughly manhandled, a wave of warmth washed over Orihime. She couldn't help but smile; the last time they had seen each other, they had been standing on opposite sides of a terrifying battlefield, fighting for their lives. Seeing the Soul Reaper safe, healthy, and overflowing with her usual energetic chaos was a massive relief.

Once Rangiku finally set her back on her feet, she gave Orihime an affectionate pat on the head. "How are you doing, my baby? I came here to stay with you for a while!"

"Welcome, Rangiku-san! I was just about to make dinner, please come in," Orihime said, stepping aside with a bright, welcoming grin.

Rangiku sauntered inside, making herself right at home as she collapsed into a dramatic, utterly relaxed sprawl across Orihime's living room sofa. For Orihime, the prospect of eating a lonely meal of rice, tofu, and chocolate instantly vanished. Having company—especially someone as vibrant as Rangiku—was a luxury she hadn't realized she was craving.

The rest of the night dissolved into a blur of pure comfort. The two girls shared dinner, laughed their way through a movie on the small television, and eventually migrated to the bedroom, talking late into the night about everything and nothing.

Until, inevitably, the conversation drifted toward a certain orange-haired Substitute Soul Reaper.

Rangiku propped her chin up with her hands, lying on her stomach across the mattress as a knowing, teasing glint sparked in her eye.

"So..." Rangiku asked, a playful smirk tugging at her lips, "any news with Ichigo?"

Orihime froze, a deep blush instantly spreading to the tips of her ears. She quickly yanked her blanket up to cover the lower half of her face.

"A-any news?!" Orihime squeaked, her eyes going wide. "We just go to school and walk home together, it's not like... I mean, we're normal!"

Rangiku propped her chin on her hands, a knowing smirk spreading across her face.

"Oh, normal?" Rangiku teased, her eyes sparkling with mischief as she leaned in closer. "Is that what you call turning the color of a ripe tomato just hearing his name? Relax, cutie. I think it's adorable."

"Rangiku-san, please stop!" Orihime whined, hiding her face completely behind the blanket while letting out a small, flustered sigh.

But as the seconds ticked by, the playful teasing faded from the room.

Rangiku's golden eyes softened as she watched the younger girl. Beneath the red flush, she caught a quiet, sorrowful shadow cross Orihime's features—a look of heavy, silent longing.

Rangiku's smirk melted away. She shifted closer, gently pulling the blanket down just enough to see Orihime's downcast eyes.

"Hey," Rangiku murmured softly, losing her teasing edge entirely. "What is it? Talk to me."

Orihime stared at her lap, her fingers nervously twisting the fabric of her shirt. "It's just... during the last battle, in Hueco Mundo, up in the Soul King's palace... everything was so intense. We were relying on each other, and I felt so close to him. It felt like we finally understood what the other was feeling without even speaking."

She swallowed hard, a trace of melancholy clinging to her voice.

"And then we came back home," Orihime whispered, her voice barely louder than a breath. "And everything just went right back to normal. Sometimes... it feels like that bond kind of vanished. Like he's right there, but miles away again."

Rangiku's expression softened into deep, empathetic understanding. She reached out, gently wrapping her arms around Orihime and pulling her into a warm, grounding embrace.

"Oh, sweetie," Rangiku said softly, resting her chin against Orihime's head. "That kind of bond doesn't just vanish because things got quiet. Boys like Ichigo are just dense, and they carry the weight of the world on their shoulders without knowing how to ask for help."

Rangiku pulled back just enough to give her a reassuring, mischievous grin, wiping away the lingering heaviness in the room.

Orihime blinked back a sudden sting of tears, offering a small, grateful smile as she leaned into the hug. "Thank you, Rangiku-san. Just... talking about it helps a lot."

"Anytime," Rangiku murmured, pulling back with a reassuring pat on the cheek. "Now, let's get some sleep. You've got school tomorrow, after all."

Orihime nodded, turning off the bedside lamp and curling up under the blankets, her heavy heart feeling just a little bit lighter. Within a few minutes, the steady, soft rhythm of her breathing told Rangiku she was finally asleep.

In the dim light of the room, Rangiku sat up slightly, a quiet, determined gleam replacing her usual playful expression.

She thinks it vanished, huh? Rangiku thought, a knowing, mischievous smile slowly spreading across her face. Not on my watch.
