Where Shadows Meet Gentle Eyes

Chapter 1: New Beginnings

The Academy classroom buzzed with excitement. Some students laughed nervously with their friends, while others tried to guess who their teammates would be. Momo sat quietly near the window. The morning sunlight spilled across her desk, warming the mission notebook resting beneath her folded hands.

She barely noticed. Instead, she watched the leaves drifting outside.Today changed everything. Graduation was over and she was no longer an Academy student, today she became a shinobi. Around the room, Naruto Uzumaki was loudly arguing with Kiba.

"I bet I'll end up on the strongest team!" Kiba barked a laugh. He smirked at Naruto crossing his arms feeling proud.

"In your dreams!" Naruto shouted crossing his arms with a smirk on his face.

Nearby, Sakura rolled her eyes while Ino and Choji talked excitedly. Momo smiled to herself. The classroom hadn't changed only their futures had. The door slid open and Iruka stepped inside carrying a clipboard.
The room fell silent almost immediately.

"Congratulations again on becoming genin." His warm smile faded into a more serious expression.

"Today you'll learn which squads you'll serve on."

A wave of whispers spread across the room.
Momo felt her heartbeat quicken she had trained for this moment for years.

Team Assignments

Iruka cleared his throat.

"Team Seven...Uzumaki Naruto, Haruno Sakura, Uchiha Sasuke."

As each team was announced, cheers and groans filled the room. Naruto celebrated because he was on a team with Sakura. Sakura sighed because she was on a team with Naruto but smiled because Sasuke was also on her team.

Kiba pumped his fist waiting to see who his team would be.

Momo waited patiently to hear her name get called.

Finally—
"Team Eight..."

"Momo Uchiha-Hyūga..."She stood quietly.

"Hinata Hyūga..."

Hinata smiled shyly toward her cousin. She gave her a light wave before looking down again.
"Kiba Inuzuka..."

"And...Shino Aburame"

Kiba blinked."Really?"

Iruka nodded."And your jonin instructor..." He smiled. "...Kurenai Yuhi."

Momo bowed politely."Understood." She sat back down, she heard another announcement.

"Team Ten..."

"Shikamaru Nara."

Shikamaru barely looked up. "Mm."

"Choji Akimichi."

"Awesome!" Choji shouts then munches on a bag of chips.

"Ino Yamanaka."

"Finally!" She shouted stretching her arms out with a smile on her face.

"And your instructor..."

"Asuma Sarutobi."

Shikamaru sighed dramatically. "So troublesome."

Momo couldn't help smiling.Even on the most important day of his life he somehow looked ready for a nap.

After the announcements, students gathered their belongings. Naruto raced through the classroom toward the door.

"I'm gonna be Hokage!" He accidentally bumped into Momo. Her scrolls scattered across the floor. Naruto stumbled backward.
