This Didn't Happen

"Mom! Going to the rec center!" I yelled

"Sweetie. You need to stay here. Today is your last day before we send you out to your brother." My mom says

"Only going for about 2 hours. I will be back by dinner." I yell and walk out

I start jogging the mile to the rec center. Only to find out it is closed. So I got to jog the mile back to my house.

"Closed?" My step brother, Braden asked

"Yeah. How did you get your workout?" I ask

"Before you and mom and dad woke up, I went downstairs." He says

"You know you aren't supposed to go down there." I say

"Why aren't I aloud to go down there? Because of Owen?" He asks and leans against the wall

"You aren't supposed to go down there. You know of one of them got out and bit you, you would be dead instantly." I yell

"I know. It was the only way I could exercise." He says

I roll my eyes and turn towards the fridge and grab an apple and a few slices of meat and a couple rats "Wait till my mom finds out."

"Oh just wait till your gone. I can go done there as many times as I want when mom and dad are asleep." He says

I put gloves on and walk downstairs with the container of food for our "viscous" reptiles. Only to have my phone go off. I set the container down and look at my caller ID. Only to see Owen calling. I slide it to answer.

"Yes Owen?" I answer

"Hey. Mom just texted me about you talking to Braden about our reptiles. What did he do?" He says

"He went down there without permission. Then he was saying I won't be able to stop him once I come down there."

"Okay. Well I found a place that can take care of them. They have a special room for these animals."

"Are they a public place?" 

"Yes. But only open for about 5 hours a day."

"Do they ever take those animals out of their cage? Or that room?"

"No. Unless they have to clean the cage then they move that animal to a different clean cage."

"Okay. Address please."

"5638 S. 8050 N. Aspen Road."

"Okay. I will let you know what they say. Now I have to go feed to the reptiles before they eat each other. But I will call you later to discuss how tomorrow works." I say and hang up

Yeah, my parents gave my brother custody of me. Since I have been wanting to live with him again. But he has been working, so they finally let him have custody.

I walk to the snakes and open the top and drop the rat in. I walk to our meat eating lizards and throw them a slice of meat. Then I go to find the crickets for our tarantulas. As I put them away I walk to my lizard, Nix and let her climb up my arm and around my back and neck. When I hear footsteps, I turn around Braden.

"Thought we weren't aloud to bring them out." He says and leans against the door frame

"That is the rule for you and your father." I say

"Then why are you and mom aloud to take them out?" He asks

"Do you have to ask so many questions? But because me and my mom have earned their trust. You and your father haven't. And will never. Cause as soon as all of them are done eating, I am bringing them to a place that will take care of them."

"Why can't you leave them and let mom take care of them?"

"Because. My mother also thinks it is a good idea to give them to that place. Where they are with specialists." I say and take Nix off my back and put her back in her cage "And I am not going to trust you with mine and Owen's animals."

I pick up the tarantulas' cages and put them in my cart and walk to the ramp next to the stairs.

"Mom! I am going to use the van!" I yell at her and grab the keys and walk out and unlock it and start setting the cages in

As soon as I finished, I called Owen as I put Nix in the front seat and get behind the wheel.

"Do we have to get rid of Nix?" I ask

"Nil. You know it is for the best. I wouldn't leave her with Braden." He says

"I know. Just... I am the one she trusts most."

"I know. Once we come back, you can get her back. This is just as long as we are here."

"Okay. It's just that I feel like I promised her I would never leave her. And here I am leaving her."

"I know. But you have to."

"Okay. Call you later. Well text you later." I say and hang up

I drive to the place Owen told me about. I found it with ease. I got out and found somebody to help me. Then I went to Nix.

"She is only staying a few months. I will be back after I am done working and come and get her." I explain as I hand him, her cage

"How do you even have all of these animals? You need a special permit." The guy says as we walk in

"Me and my brother used to work at a different place until they shut down and sent home all the dangerous animals home with us." I say

"Do you have a permit?"

I pull out my wallet and look for my permit and show him "Right here."

He nods and sets Nix down next to one of the snakes.

"Oh and never have them in the same cage. Any of them. Including Nix and Shadow." I say point to Nix and Shadow, a black lizard
