"Lets call it a truce".
Five simple words and it still froze me.
When she was crying, I felt hurt and rage like no other. Knowing I am the one to cause that didn't help it either.
So many years I have spent trying to apologize to actually talk and find out what the hell exactly I did to make her hate me so much.
But nothing.
And when I was on the brink of give up and keeping my distance she walked and looked like she actually cared. Atleast about my dog and nephew.
I will take whatever I can.
And suddenly she was asking for a truce.
"What?" I couldn't help but ask. Maybe I was hearing things.
"Yes", she nodded her hands now clutched between her knees.
"Truce. Its enough".
The look she gave me was one with determination.
Anything I have wanted more than this right now. Probably. But this I couldn't even imagine.
"Are you....Why?", I fumbled to find the right word to say.
She laughed and shook her head, finding it as bizarre as I did.
"I have spent 6 years of my life hating you", her eyes still carry the hate I could see it, "tried every single thing to make Ray stay away from you but he didn't. And the hate turned into Bitterness".
She poked her fist in the middle of her chest, and it felt as if she poured salt all over my wound.
"In the end nothing changed but it only getting hurt and hurt and hurt again. And I am do done", she wiped the one lone tear that managed to escape.
"But now I want to move forward. So tell me are you in or not".
I shook my head trying to get rid of the thoughts clashing at once.
"How can I move forward if I don't even know what I did to hurt you at the first place".
"You don't need to know. It doesn't matter anymore".
"It does. To me it does".
I was sure about what I wanted and she could see it too. I felt her hesitate for a moment but her eyes gleamed. The stubborn look that I so very know took over.
"Look I am never telling you that. Never did. But I am willing to put it in the past. Just say yes or no".
"One condition".
"What?", she practically spat not getting her way easily.
"If we are really doing this. Then I want you to promise me one thing. In future if I repeat the same mistake again. Or if was something I said that hurt I want you to tell me instantly".
I looked straight in her eyes and said every word slowly to get it to her conscious.
"If I repeat the same mistake you come and tell me immediately no ifs, no buts. Promise me this".
She seem to take in my words for a moment then she took a deep breath.
She nodded her head.
"I promise".
We gazed at each other for a moment when she put her palm out, "So Truce".
My much bigger and rough hand wrapped around her tiny, soft one as I repeatedly.
"Truce".
We kept on looking into each other eyes as if that could set the words in stone.
Suddenly another or say paw came on top of our still joined hands.
Me and Vienna looked at Storm as he sat at our side his one hand over hours as he gave that really happy look he rarely gives when he is with Silver to her.
We both looked at each other and laughed at the moment.
Vienna seemed to find it sweet as she dived and hugged storm, still giggling at his antics.
I was worried for a second as I have never seen any other person hugging him beside Silver , he haa soft corner for only that kid and sometimes me when he just wouldn't leave me when I am sick.
But seeing both of them equally happy made me happy in turn.
"Oh my god".
"You are so cute. Isn't he?"
She turned her face to look at me only for me to realize how close we were. I could feel her breath on my face. I could that her eyes were the darker shade of green today rather than the usual seagreen due to the lighting.
My body moved before I could grasp it completely and I was standing up taking a step back as if that is our default.
To always be at a distance from each other.
She seemed to get it too.
She played with Storm for a bit and than she too stood up.
"I should go now".
I nodded at her.
"Did you bring your car or?".
"I drive myself so its okay. I will go now".
She bend down and planted a kiss at the top of Storm's head. And that brat had the audacity to wag his tail frantically.
If I knew all it would take was Storm to have her have a conversation with me. I would have done it long before.
Not long long before cause he is just 1 year old. Yeah. He is just too big for his own good.
*
She left.
Both me and Storm stood at the door as if she would walk right back in.
"Look at you behaving like a lost puppy. I live with you not her".
I said to Storm as he gave me that longing look of his.
"How long have you know her to gave me those puppy dog eyes?".
"Like you would answer".
"Come to bed", I said started to way hearing his paw hit the floor behind me.
I switched the lights on my way over to my room upstairs.
I was ready to head to bed when I hear Storm scratching at the door.
He never does unless something is the matter.
I opened the door to find his burly body standing on his four legs as he held a clothe in his mouth.
"What is it?"
I asked taking it away from him to find it was just one of my trench coat.
"Why did -"
Then it hit me. The faint but familiar scent of Vienna still on it.
He must have smelled it after she wore it that night. He recognized the smell and now smelling it again.
Mine was mixed as well along it.
I shook my head at the smartness of my dog.
"Too smart of your own good", I said gave him a proud pat at his back. A little stronger just as he like it.
"You did right", I said and he gave me a proud look and left like he knew what he just did.
