I walked through the trees in the forest behind my house like I did every day since starting high school. I kept my head down and I walked weaving in and out of the brush. Every step I took my breath shook and beads of sweat formed on my palms.

I was approaching the clearing I'd taken comfort in many times before but something was different.

As I looked up I noticed a small thin figure hunched over and small whimpers echoed through the trees. I stopped abruptly looking around for a few seconds trying to decide if I should turn around or approach whatever I was looking at. I took a few step closer trying to avoid giving my presence away.

Suddenly the noises stopped and the persons eyes shot towards me. A loud scream rang through my ears provoking me to do the same.

"What the fuck?!" A soft voice spurt out.

"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to scare you." I quickly ran to my defense. "I didn't know anyone came out here I was just walking." I added.

"Who are you?" The voice replied.

I took a step forward trying to clear my vision of the blur distance gave. "I live here. Who are you?" I answered.

The figure stood up and I could clearly see now it was a woman. A small woman wearing jeans and a hoodie. Her dark hair draping down her shoulders. Her face riddled with streaks of black from crying.

"Lilith. My name is Lilith. I think I'm lost or something." Her voice shaking.

"How did you get here?" I question reluctantly.

"I walked.." She paused "I don't know from what direction I can't remember" She sounded confused. Her voice dripping with haze. "I made a mistake. I've been sad for a while I thought taking medication would help but I drank. A lot."

I approached her standing around a foot or so away.

"I'm not supposed to drink but I drank a lot." Her breath soaked in alcohol. The breeze taking the smell and carrying it to me. I scrunched my nose up trying to somehow block in from entering.

"Are you alright? Do you need some help?" I questioned lightly. "I can bring you back to my house where there's service so you can call someone."

She looked up, her eyes were bloodshot and puffy. She was pouting and the length of her crisis was visible by how swollen her lips had become from crying.

"How do I know you won't kill me?" Her head turning slightly emphasizing her concern.

"If you drank on meds that will kill you probably faster than I can." I shot back. She nodded slowly, agreeing to my offer.

"I can't walk well. I can't see much everything is blurring"

"I'll help you." I took her arm and slung it over my shoulder. My hand slid around her back gripping her waist. I proceeded to almost drag her back through the forest, every step her body slouched more.

When I got near my house I called an ambulance and gave the medics my number to update me on her condition.

I didn't sleep the whole night regardless of my efforts. I hardly knew the girl yet I lain awake all night with her presence holding space in the forefront of my mind.

Had I known then saving her that day would've led to her inevitable suicide I would've turned around when I had the chance.
