Kira sighed. Driving up to the sushi bar was going to be tiresome. It wasn't really far, only a 30-minute drive, but the thought of socializing always made him feel overwhelmed.
But his charming but annoying co-worker was so excitedly hellbent on introducing him to his foreign exchange friend from college.
And he was adamant about Kira meeting him, the so-called cute cowboy that he always talked about.
Kira pulled up to the sushi bar and parked his car. He sighed, resting his head on the steering wheel to psych himself up. After a moment, he straightened and walked inside. The scent of lavender and fresh pastries filled the air, calming yet invigorating.
That's when Kira spotted him-a pink-haired, muscular man sitting at a table with Junji. His pink hair framed his face like a festive wreath. As Kira approached, the scent grew stronger, coming from the black man who sat beside him. The man sipped his green tea before setting the cup down politely to greet Kira.
"Hi, my name's Jules Joestar," the man said in the most beautiful southern drawl. "Junji here has told me a lot about you. It's a pleasure to meet you." He kindly offered his hand.
Nervously, Kira took it, surprised by its softness. These were not calloused hands but gentle, and from his wrist came the scent of peaches, almost making Kira's mouth water. Suddenly, he stopped himself. What was he doing? Jules was a man, not a woman-but somehow, Kira felt a strange stirring of interest in a place he didn't expect.
Conflicted, Kira tried to make sense of it. He wasn't gay, so why did Jules smell so intoxicating? Why did his hands feel like the soft petals of a delicate rose? Kira Yoshikage was utterly shocked by this unfamiliar sensation.
So caught up in the feeling and the scent, he didn't even notice Junji greeting him beside Jules.
Kira didn't inquire, but as usual, Junji chatted endlessly about his day, and when Jules spoke, Kira paid attention.
He discovered that Jules, a cowboy who was passionate about farm animals, was from South Carolina and had come to this country to pursue a veterinary degree to start his own animal clinic.
He showed Kira both his farm and his beloved pets. At that point, Kira realized he would get along well with Jules.
In Kira's opinion, anyone who loved cats was a wonderful person. Without a doubt, he disliked discussing himself, but as the evening wore on, he revealed that he was thirty-three and learned that Jules had just turned twenty-five.
As the evening wore on. Jules openly and shamelessly flirted with Kira. Kira had never encountered someone so audacious and colorful in his life, and although he was tempted to lure the other out back and slaughter him for his hands, he chose not to.
He made the decision that, for the time being, he wanted to learn more about Jules and get to know the other person. As the night wore on, Kira excused himself to go home because he was intrigued by him in more ways than one. Jules secretly put his number in his bag while he wasn't looking, wished him a good night, and helped Junji, who was intoxicated, get into a cab. Kira put on a courteous smile and waved goodbye as he made his way to his own house.
Kira reflected on his day and Jules as he drove home. Although he wasn't gay, Kira was enthralled by the scent and the other man's lively laughter. He kept thinking about the other man, making it difficult for him to fall asleep. He made the decision that he had to see Jules once more at all costs. As Kira showered and went to bed, he had no idea that he would be seeing him again very soon.
