Chapter Thirty Three

My first day of training with Eva had been exhausting mentally and physically. Eva became an impassive drill sergeant who made sure I never left our sessions without breaking a sweat. These sessions weren't just about learning how to fight, but also to build my stamina, improve my physique and to enhance my agility.

We would start everyday from five am for one and a half hours. When I first explained it to my mum she refused, no demanded, for me not to do it. However, as I told her why I needed to do this, mum began to understand that this would be in my best interest too.

The basic moves I had learnt with Ryder did come in use, but did not protect me from Eva's stealth. I thought we would start fighting on the first day, but Eva proved me wrong by making do fifteen laps in the training grounds used for the pack. By the end of it, my lungs were burning and my tongue shrivelled from dehydration.  Needless to say, Ryder wasn't pleased when I would come back exhausted and sometimes even bruised, but he couldn't say anything since he knew this was my decision, and therefore I had to deal with the consequences, but that didn't stop him from smothering me.

It went on like this for a week- running laps and when we weren't running laps Eva would make me do push ups and sit ups. Eva's exact words were "you can't begin to fight if you don't have the physique or even the strength to support you", so that's what we were doing. Within the first few days I noticed a slight difference,  I could run five laps without panting, then soon ten and after the first two and a half weeks I could do fifteen without collapsing onto my knees at the end.

I was quite surprised when I came in on the third week to hear that we would begin with the basics of fighting. if I won, which there was a high possibility I wouldn't, then we could finish early, however, If I failed, which I always did, I would have to do thirty laps. I nearly fainted after the thirty laps, to which Ryder put his foot down and almost stopped my training, but after a few persuading arguments from me he didn't.

It may sound like the trainings were brutal, but that's because most Lunas would be wolves, so they could keep up with this kind of training, but I was human so It would take me much longer, and a lot more energy to do this.

Whilst my training would go on before school, after school I would come back to the pack house for my sessions with Ryder. It was almost as if I lived there since I was there nearly all the time. In these sessions with Ryder he would teach me about pack law, pack life and everything else to do or about packs in general. For two hours Ryder would implant information about his kind into me so much that I would come out with a slight headache at all this new knowledge.

At first he started it off with the basics, telling me about the rankings within a pack which I already knew of: Alpha, Beta and Luna. This led him onto telling me how you could acquire these positions. An alpha can be male or female and could be born into this position, can fight for it (I shuddered when he told me this thinking back to moment when he told me that Blake could kill him), or could be chosen by the former Alpha.

Beta positions were a lot more easily acquired since most of the time the Alpha chooses whoever they see fit. I felt proud thinking Ryder chose a female Beta instead of a traditional male one, but I knew Ryder saw the potential in Eva- she made the best Beta. Ryder didn't tell me much about the Luna positions since I already knew they had to be mated to the Alpha, but he did say that some Alphas marry people who aren't their mates. When I asked him if Lunas could be males, Ryder didn't really know, since Alpha females normally mated with other Alphas. No one has ever heard of a male Luna, yet.

After a few more days being taught about pack laws Ryder told me how packs had territories and boundaries, and how once a wolf from another pack or a rogue crossed into a boundary, without some kind verification from their Alpha, they could be dealt with however the pack they entered sees fit. It seemed kind of harsh, but Ryder said that the pack safety comes first and crossing into a territory without any reason could cause harm to people, especially if it was a rogue.
