The stage lights slowly flickered on.
One.
Two.
Three.
Rows of empty red seats stretched endlessly before him.
The grand theater was silent.
Too silent.
At center stage stood Lee Heeseung.
A microphone in one hand.
A script in the other.
His black uniform blazer hung loosely over his shoulders as he stared into the darkness of the auditorium.
"Again."
The music teacher sighed from below.
Heeseung laughed.
"Sir, that's the fifteenth time."
"Then make the sixteenth better."
The piano started again.
Soft notes echoed through the theater.
Heeseung closed his eyes.
Singing wasn't difficult.
Performing wasn't difficult.
But somehow...
telling a story honestly always was.
As he sang, golden afternoon sunlight poured through the high theater windows.
Dust particles floated through the air like tiny stars.
It looked like a movie scene.
Like something too beautiful to be real.
Then-
The theater doors burst open.
BANG.
Everyone turned.
And there he was.
A boy carrying far too many boxes.
White shirt.
Black tie.
Messy hair.
Panicked expression.
And unfortunately-
His shoelaces were untied.
"Oh no."
The boy stumbled.
The boxes flew.
Scripts scattered everywhere.
The entire theater froze.
Then the boy landed face-first on the floor.
Silence.
A beat.
Two beats.
Three.
Someone snorted.
Another laughed.
Soon the whole theater erupted.
The boy slowly raised his head.
His cheeks were red.
Very red.
"I hate my life."
More laughter.
Even Heeseung laughed.
The boy looked toward the stage.
Their eyes met.
And for one strange second...
everything seemed to stop.
The laughter.
The piano.
The noise.
The sunlight.
Just those eyes.
Dark.
Bright.
Warm.
Beautiful.
Then the moment disappeared.
The boy quickly stood.
"Sorry! Sorry! Sorry!"
The teacher pinched his nose.
"You're the transfer student?"
"Yes."
"Name?"
The boy bowed politely.
"Park Sunghoon."
The name settled somewhere inside Heeseung's chest.
For some reason...
it stayed there.
The teacher pointed toward the stage.
"Congratulations."
Sunghoon blinked.
"For what?"
"You're joining the school musical."
"...What?"
"Auditions start tomorrow."
"...WHAT?"
The theater exploded with laughter again.
And for the first time in a very long time-
Heeseung smiled so hard his cheeks hurt.
He didn't know it yet.
But years later...
when people asked when he first fell in love-
his answer would always be the same.
Not during a confession.
Not during a song.
Not during a kiss.
But the moment a clumsy transfer student walked into a theater...
tripped over his own shoelaces...
and accidentally changed his entire life.
