Soraya watched from her place outside, her normal table filled with her normal friends, as the new students rushed around. Still equally excited and nervous to be starting university, with no idea of what was to come.

Her eyes scanning the crowd for any familiar faces - her cousin specifically.

Bailey had given her a heads up that Doug was starting his freshman year and had, of course, picked the very same school as Soraya.

Doug wasn't the problem, no. Soraya tolerated him well enough despite their falling out years ago. Which may or may not have been her fault. Depending on who you asked.

It was just that with him came his new group of Isle kids, VKs if you will. Kids who hadn't quite figured out their place in the social hierarchy. Ones likely not to respect her position, her status, her royal blood and wealth. If Audrey's experience was anything to go by, Soraya was not going to enjoy her Junior year.

Especially since she'd heard the rumors, seen the pictures online even, of Doug and his new girlfriend. His supposed 'true love', Evie Queen. Which was all fine and good, except Soraya didn't particularly like Evie. She didn't have a specific reason for why. She didn't need one.

The other problem was that with Evie came Mal, and with Mal came Ben. Unfortunately.

Soraya wanted nothing to do with the King of Auradon.

The young man was constantly pestering her with emails, phone calls, texts even - the audacity - regarding joining his royal council. Requesting a stronger alliance with her kingdom, and for what? To be another one of his 'yes men'? Get closer with the VKs?

No.

Soraya wanted no part in any of it. Not after all the bad blood between their families.

The White Family was not what it once was. With her father gone, her mother reduced to some TV reporter to save her dwindling self confidence and excessive need for external validation, running their northwestern kingdom had fallen to Soraya's brother, Sebastian, and their older cousins. The kingdom was in disarray, finances a mess, civil unrest rising daily. Something that shouldn't have been left to an 18 year old prince alone.

She often believed this was the catalyst for her mother's mental breakdown.

Unfortunately, Snow White was no better than the Evil Queen with the obsession of constantly being the most beautiful woman. It developed over time as the most famous Princess aged and slowly lost the spotlight to the younger, upcoming royals. Leading to conflict with her only daughter naturally. Soraya was just as beautiful as her mother, if not more, and that just wasn't acceptable. The former queen had abandoned her position, her kingdom, her children.

And what did the ruling family of Auradon do during all of this?

Nothing.

No financial support or offers to attend Auradon Prep for Soraya. No advisors sent to help ease the transition for a young, newly crowned Sebastian. No new offers to join the Auradon alliance. Not one attempt to even reach out until King Ben needed something from them.

If Ben or his family wanted a better alliance, they should have thought about that years ago.

Soraya and her brother learned quickly how to not just survive, but thrive. Turning their association with the famous dwarves into a billion dollar jewelry and luxury good industry that supported the small kingdom. A business their parents had started, but they allowed to flourish - and the main reason for Ben's constant communication.
