The Words of a Lost Friend

Levin looked down at me and put his hand out for me to grab. "I don't know what happened but... look to the future, and not the past." He said.

His words hit home, as I put on my serious face and took his hand, allowing him to help me up. I grab my Quinque from the ground and give Levin a grin.

"That was a cheesy line." I said.

Levin scratched his head with an embarrassed look. "Y-Yeah... I guess it sort of was." He trailed off.

I aim my quinque at the beast. "I don't know why we're teaming up with the hot head-"

"Hey!" Ayato said.

"- but it's time to show my serious side! It's time to be... Sasserious!" I said valiantly.

Levin POV

"That line makes me want to gag." I murmured, but snapped out of it from the creature making headway.

It slammed one of its limbs that was left next to the ground to me, making the ground underneath me vibrate and move. A crater was left from its attack, and I took a couple of steps back.

The next attack I jump to the side, and grab onto the limb with my talon, making it take me closer as it retracted its limb. I jump off and land underneath.

I slash open its belly, making it reel around faster. But a limb flies at me from the side, and I try to dodge, but it winds back around and hits me upside the hip.

I fly and skid to a halt a few meters away. My side ached, but I could feel it healing and the pain slipping away already. I grit my teeth and stand, watched Ayato jump into the shrine and shooting crystals at it.

It had little affect, and the creature tried to sweat at him, like he was an annoying fly that was landing on him every time he tried to shoo it away.

"I need you to expose the core!" Ayato yelled. I didn't know if he was talking to either me or Hinami, but she seemed ready, as she sprinted forward and slashed one of its main legs off, making it stumble.

She easily blocked attacks with her large two wings, and with her tail like saw limbs, slashed away the limbs like twigs. She turned to me and called out.

"I need help! Get the other side!" She called, turning back around to pay attention to the attacks being felt on her. I snap out of it and once again run at it.

I slide under its attacks and whack away any resistance. From the face, Sasaki is keeping it busy on him, every time it looks away from him he slashed it across the face, a grin on his face.

This is our only chance! I jump up on its back, the limbs having a hard time finding me somewhere it couldn't see. I grin as I stab into the Kagune body to keep steady from the shaking.

Kurona and Nashiro seemed to be attacked it from behind, and half of the time they had to save an idiot civilian that was hanging around or scared to move.

I thought I told them to leave... Damn girls.

I turn my attention back to the creature and slowly make my way to its head, climbing across its back. I stop at the back of its head, and jump upwards, letting my Kagune get out, and slashing in a scissor like fashion on my target.

The creature screeched, as the head started to fall off, I saw a body. I begin to smirk but am quickly to erase that smirk. The person that was the core was-!

"Ayato! Shoot him!" I yelled, holding the wound I inflicting open with my talons, the Kagune trying to pull itself back together.

Ayato doesn't even look to see who it is, he jumps into action and fire down a volley of kagune crystals. The creature twitched, after the dust settled.

Slowly, it fell, and with a loud and satisfying crack, the creature fell to the ground. I jumped off and landed next to Sasaki, who was catching his breath.

Sasaki caught who was inside and flinched. "B-But... I killed him..." he said, looking at the man inside.

"That's what I thought..." I trailed off as me and him look down at the Aogiri member I had heard Sasaki had killed with Vincent.

Nori couldn't breath, not with a bunch of crystals in his neck, chest, and shoulders. He looked over at us with his kakugan blazing, veins spreading across his face.

He coughed out blood, and slowly stopped moving altogether. Me and Sasaki didn't say anything for awhile, we then heard footsteps behind us.

We turn to find Doctor Kanou, a calm smile on his face, a face I want to pound in.

"Ah, it seems you killed my prime subject." He said with little to no disappointment.

Sasaki frowned. "Who are you?" He asked.

I cut the doctor off. "Why is Nori alive?" I commanded an answer.

Kanou put his hands out as if to say, why am I the bad guy?

"I couldn't let such a valuable man go to waste... so I picked him up and did some... things." He said simply, as if it were already fact.

"That's horrible!" I said, gritting my teeth, ready to pounce this man is rip him apart. Ghoul inside me was practically begging me to try.

Kanou laughed. "What's so horrible about wanting to overcome nature? Sadly, doing that, can make a man lose it. I guess that's why he didn't have much sanity left." He mumbled and trailed off, rubbing his chin as if to wonder what went wrong.

"Oh well... this was a great experiment. Not the outcome I thought of, but at least I got to see my master piece in action." He said, looking at Sasaki with a grin that made shivers go down me spine.

He waved and then started to walk away, but Ayato intercepted him, blocking his path. "Hey! Kanou, you bastard, why did you suddenly leave?!" He asked in anger.

"Simply because they have better labs for me to use. Out of the way, Kirishima." He said with a straight face as Shachi jumped in front of Kanou, his stern expression making Ayato freeze.

Hinami put a hand on Ayato's shoulder and whispered something to him, he bit his lip and turned away, and they both jogged over to us before leaving. Hinami whispered something in Sasaki's ear before leaving.

Me and Sasaki were forced to watch as Kanou walked away without a scratch from this whole ordeal. If Shachi is here...

I look over at the hill and see Kuro and Shiro helping Rize up, she was flicking their foreheads and telling them she was fine.

I turn back to find Kanou and Shachi gone. I clench my fists and teeth in rising anger.

One day Kanou....
