It had come to my attention that the A/U was deleted when I was editing this, so here it is. Hopefully it makes sense, as I'm writing this on 4 hours of sleep, an energy drink, and hopes and dreams lol.
A/U: Stephen (Thomas) was given to WCKD by their mother, Cladia, at age 9. Due to Frontal Lobe Dementia, Cladia believed Stiles was dangerous, so she turned Stephen over to WCKD for his safety. Noah pressed Cladia for Stephen's whereabouts until her death, but learned nothing. After exhausting leads, the case grew cold and was presumed closed. As a single father in grief with other cases, Noah lost hope. Stiles, also grieving, protected himself by believing Stephen was just a childhood friend who moved away. Grief blurred these memories, a common reaction in children. Adults rarely mentioned Stephen, sparing Stiles further pain. WCKD learned Thomas had a twin and, seeing Stiles' intelligence, kidnapped him. They erased his memories, renamed him Lock (For those who don't know, WCKD would rename the kids after taking them in, as for why they did this, I don't know; they just did), and put him in the maze when he did not comply. Thomas, not wanting to lose his brother again and doubting WCKD, betrayed them and was sent into the maze as well.
