The loud buzzing of her phone woke Harper up. despite sleeping the whole night ;and according to the bright light peeking in through her blinds; most of the day she still felt exhausted and weak. She purposely swiped past the notifications that filled her phone from top to bottom..
"1:00 PM" thé screen read as she reached across her nightstand pushed the speaker phone button and snuggled back under her covers.
"Yes, Mon?" she cleared her throat
"Have you just woken up?" Monica's voice had the same hint of concern that she had the other day.
"I was jet lagged" Harper proped herself up on her elbows and drank a large gulp of water from the bottle on her desk.
"You haven't left California in weeks"
"I'm emotionally jet lagged" her phone dinged with yet another notification.
Mon was quiet for a beat before responding.
"Understandable" though she couldn't see her Harper could feel her best friend nodding her head as she said this.
"Don't go anywhere. I've got my key. I'll be there in 5 minutes"
Before Harper could reply Monica had hung the phone up and she was left again with the constant dinging of notifications. She could turn it off she knew but in order to do that she'd come face to face with messages that she had been trying her best to avoid since yesterday morning. She sighed and buried herself back under the covers.
"Harp?" her best friends voice came from outside the room. Harper lifted her head up from her pillow and watched as the door slowly slid open.
Monica tentatively entered the room holding a small plastic bag.
"Half Baked?" Monica asked as she handed the bag to Harper.
Harper nodded graciously and pulled open the bag with enthusiasm.
She began to get up from the bed when Monica pulled out a spoon from the discarded bag on the floor.
"Looking for this?" Monica held up the spoon and passed it to Harper who mumbled a soft thank you.
The two sat comfortably in silence until Harper's phone began to thrill once more with incoming messages.
"Ugh" Harper threw her head back
"You can stop those notifications. I don't even know why Kelly had you do that to begin with? "
Harper was silent before turning to her best friend.
"I can't turn it off."
Understanding showed in Monica's eyes and she reached for the phone on the bed.
"I can turn them off if you want?"
Harper nodded as she tucked into her ice cream.
"So.." Monica stated nonchalantly as she worked on blocking Harper's messages
"So..." repeated Harper
"Harp? Have you talked to him"
Harper immediately knew the "He" Monica was referring to and the answer was "No" she hasn't spoken to him since yesterday.,
"What's there to talk about?"
"Harper, seriously?" Monica looked at her bestie with a look of exasperation.
Harper returned the look "According to the press I'm always serious"
"Not all the time.." Monica replied softly
Harper chewed her ice cream as she mulled over the statement
"No, not all the time.
