The house was awfully quiet. Way too much considering there was only Matthew in the house. He was playing games, sitting on the floor and head leaning against the bed, eyes fixed on the screen. The window next to the bed was open, sunlight flashing on his skin as he played a game calmly probably for the first time in his life.
Khaotung had gone out to pick First up. First's parents were out for their anniversary. They wanted to take him too but he insisted that they should spend time together without him interrupting on their anniversary. And later, after they'd left, he'd called Khaotung saying he wanted to spend the day with him and Matthew.
Khaotung was hesitant about it at first. He had work to handle. But after, he'd decided that he'd hand it to his secretary for the day. After all, it wasn't everyday that he got to spend time with First.
He didn't tell First about it though. Of course, he didn't. That man would take a whole mile if he gave him even the corner of one inch. Some things were better staying in his mind only to remind him how special First truly was.
But Matthew knew about it. Not exactly knew, he eavesdropped and that information was so gonna reach First's ears so soon inevitably.
So he sat there, waiting for them to get back. Not like it'd been long since Khaotung went out anyways but to be honest, he was feeling odd. Maybe because he was seeing his brother genuinely happy after all those traumatic years.
If Matthew was to be honest, he was terrified the day the whole accident thing happened. It was probably one of the worst days of his life, putting aside the day their parents died. And in the end, he believed it was bound to happen.
If not that day then some other. But it had to happen for Khaotung to finally realize that his life was worth living.
When he started noticing years ago that First had a crush on Khaotung, he used to get this odd feeling, not because he didn't want them to date or anything like that but because First was such a sunshine. He was scared Khaotung would end up hurting both himself even deeper and break First. And it did happen, to some extent. But the love did turn the situation around.
He remembered the time when he used to notice there was something up with Khaotung, but he couldn't do anything about it. He felt helpless. It's not that he didn't notice how much his brother was doing for him, he did, how could he not?
He sacrificed his whole life, his own well-being, just so Matthew could live comfortably. But he wanted to help even if he knew Khaotung wouldn't let him. He maybe didn't tell him but his actions already said how much he truly loved him. He just wanted to show that he loved him too.
So even though he was skeptical of them at first, he eventually realized that Khaotung had a soft spot for First. The way he talked about him, the way he searched for him, it was clear that First was... different to him than just anyone else.
And it made him the happiest to know so even when First had told he approached him just for Khaotung... he'd eventually accepted it. Surely, intention did matter but it didn't always have to be true. They might have become best friends accidentally, but First did love him after all, and he meant the world to him.
And the bell rang outside. Matthew got up excitedly. It was probably them. They'd already planned to spend the day together. First and him spending time together wasn't a new thing, but this time, Khaotung was joining, it was no longer just him and First or him and his brother, they were finally all getting along.
As he opened the door, he immediately smiled at the two of them holding hands. How could he not love seeing the two people he loved vey much so happy together?
