20: The Boy Next Door

Start from the beginning

"I don't care. She's so pretty and smart."

I've never seen Justin so interested in a girl. Well, there was one girl in the eight grade who he liked, but she ended up being a brat, so he quickly got over her. All the girls are always fall head over heels for Justin, but he always seems uninterested. So I guess I could do him this favor. It could get all the girls off his back. So why not? "Alright, I'll go talk to her."

I took off my sandals and shoved them in Justin's hands. I walked over to the pool and sat next the Jessica, putting my feet in the water. Of course the pool was heated, or else we would all freeze to death because we're in Colorado. Jessica turned her head towards me and smiled. "Hey, Melody."

"You can call me Mel." I stated.

"Okay. Hey, Mel." She corrected herself. "Don't you go out with Danny?"

I smiled. "Yeah." I loved it when people asked me that.

"It must be cool dating a guy this rich and popular." She said, her smile fading away. "I wish I had a boyfriend."

I smiled. "Perfect, you can date Justin Hollister."

She paused for a while before laughing. "Fat chance." She said.

My mouth gaped. "What? Why? You just said you wanted a boyfriend."

"Not Justin. I mean, he's cute and all, but girls are always falling to his feet and worshiping the ground he walks on. He's a freaking chick magnet. It's kind of annoying."

"But he really likes you." I informed

"Well why didn't he come over here and tell me himself?" She had a point there. I opened my mouth to say something, but I had no response, so I closed it again. Jessica laughed. "Sorry, Mel. But you seem really cool, we should talk more."

"Okay." I got up from the pool and walked over to Justin. "Sorry dude." I said, grabbing my sandals and walking away.

"How many hours till it's New Years?" I asked Danny, putting my feet up on the glass table in the backyard.

"Uh," Danny took out his phone. "It's only ten-thirty."

"Ugh." I groaned.

"But why the rush. Because that means we have more time to do this..." Danny slowly leaned in and my heart started pounding out of control. He's about to kiss me, this is the moment. Danny was only centimeters away from my lips.

"Alonzo!"

"What!!" I yelled, turning around. Michael walked towards me. I rolled my eyes. This moron just interrupted me from my kiss! I was literally a second away from kissing Danny, but the ass wipe had to ruin it for me.

"I need to show you something." Michael grabbed me by the wrist and dragged me away. I turned around and gave Danny an apologetic look and he responded with an "it's okay, we'll get back to this later" look.

Michael dragged me inside of the house. "What do want?" I asked, turning to face him.

"See for yourself." He said, pointing to the couch.

I frowned and walked over to the living room. Catelynn was standing on the couch and laughing. Everyone was watching her and taking videos of her. "Don't lick the children." Catelynn said, jumping off the couch. She was laughing and when she walked over to me, she looked like she could barely stand. Oh no she's drunk.

"Catelynn?" I put my hands on her shoulders. "What is wrong with you?! How could you get yourself intoxicated?!"

"Mel, relax, I'm not really drunk." She said, standing up straight and running her fingers through her brown hair.

"Huh?"

"Justin, Jessica, Dana, Drake, Dylan and I are all playing truth or dare upstairs. And everyone dared me to come down here, pretend to be drunk, and say 'don't lick the children' to everyone in the living room."

"Oh." I said. That makes much more sense. I knew Catelynn would never get herself drunk.

"You guys wanna play?" Catleynn said with excitement.

"No." I said at the same time Michael said "Yes."

"Come on!" She said, running upstairs.

I groaned and followed Michael and Catelynn up the stairs. The second floor was just as huge as the first floor, no surprise.

"I dare you to kiss me." Justin said to Jessica.

"But I picked truth." Jessica said.

"Well change it to dare." Justin said.

"No."

Justin sighed. Everyone laughed.

"Why do you wanna kiss her?" Dana asked, crossing her arms.

Justin ignored Dana and faced the rest of us. Dylan was about to give someone a truth or dare until we heard someone shouting.

We heard footsteps run up the stairs and someone burst in our room. It was Renaldo Davis, a boy in our grade who goes to Red Valley High. "EVERYONE COME OUTSIDE! IT'S 11:59!!!" Renaldo yelled to the top of his lungs.

All of us then got up and ran downstairs. It was finally one minute until New Years.

When we were all outside, I found Danny and stood next to him. "Guys! Start counting it down!" Renaldo yelled.

"Ten." Everyone started.

"Nine."

"Eight."

"Seven."

"Six."

"Five."

"Four."

"Three."

"Two."

"One!"

"Happy New Year!!"

And at that moment, Danny faced me and connected his lips with mine. I was at shock at first, but then I just went on with it.
