Eve's POV:
I can't stop thinking about the email from yesterday. It was from the coach of a really good hockey school. They invited me there, but I can't go. I can't even tell my step mom. She gonna freak out if I say a word about leaving home. I hope I find a way...
SM: EVE! Ur gonna be late for school!
Eve: I know, I'm sorry!
I look around my messy room trying to find the one shirt I want to wear today. Gosh this place is a disaster. My skates are hanging on my door handle, random piles of clothes and homework everywhere, my stick is just laying on the floor and I always trip on it. I finally find the shirt behind my bean bag chair. I put on my Eilish no. 2 perfume and checked if my black hair is still straight. I run down stairs and trip over my feet, landing on my stomach.
Eve: oww shit!
SM: Eve stop being crazy. Are you ok?
Eve: yeah yeah I'm alright.
I get up and grab a smoothie and a banana from the fridge and run to the door
Eve: I have practice today at six. Are you able to give me a ride?
SM: Yeah sure if you come to help me with work after
Eve: I will.
I run out the door to the bus stop. It's really cold. I check the temperature, -5°C. Am I getting soft? Or worse, American. In Finland -5 is almost summer weather. I wonder how mom's doing. I miss her... but I know she's doesn't miss me, not after I just left. The bus comes and I step in. My best friend is sitting in the back with her other friends and her boyfriend.
Cassie: Eve! Come on!
I sit next to her and look at her boyfriend's hand on her thigh moving higher and higher before Cass slaps it and laughs.
Cassie: Antonio! We're on a school bus!
She whispers and Antonio just laughs and smirks. I don't know why but I feel kinda jealous? Possessive even. Could be because me and Cass were "friends with benefits" for a while before she got into a relationship. We were playing truth or dare together one time and she dared me to kiss her and a thing led to another. But we're totally platonic now.
Cass: So... are u going?
Eve: huh? Where?
Cass: to the school u dummy!?
Eve: oh.. I can't. I know Hannah (the step mom) won't let me...
Cass: Eve! It's ur biggest dream!! Who cares what she thinks! You have to go!
Antonio just nods along and I get a sudden jolt of adrenaline. Cassie is right, it is my dream. I'm not throwing away my dreams.
