The Original Diaries of Legacies

Introduction

This story exists within the world of The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and Legacies.

Canon is not erased here, it is expanded.

This story introduces an original character:

Hakoda "Koda" Mikaelson.

He does not replace any canon role. He does not undo prophecy. He does not take Hope's place. He exists beside canon in the spaces between it.

Hakoda Mikaelson was born in 1571 and raised far from New Orleans, far from Mystic Falls, by a pack of werewolves in the Pacific Northwest. He grew up never knowing his father. He grew up with a mother, grandfather and a tribe that loved him. He triggered his werewolf curse at 12 after accidentally pushing his friend and killing him on a routine gathering mission when they were playing around. At twenty, he died protecting a witch from vampires and rose in transition, his dormant vampire blood awakening with him.

When he died, The witch he had saved was still there when it happened. She expected to see a body growing cold, a life slipping away. Instead, she saw something impossible, his wound knitting itself back together, flesh sealing. There was no blood on his mouth. No sign he had gotten vampire blood in him. No explanation that made sense. Fear replaced gratitude.

She turned to magic for answers, and the truth revealed itself in whispers of power, he was the son of Klaus. That knowledge changed everything.

Not fully understanding what he was or what he might become, she acted out of instinct and survival. She wove a spell through his broken mind, altering memory itself. When he woke, he would not remember vampires. He would remember witches. He would believe they had fought him, captured him, performed a ritual that transformed him into a hybrid.

For centuries, Koda believed he had been made.

The truth is more complicated.

He was conceived during a rare celestial event when magic across the world weakened including the bindings on Klaus Mikaelson's hybrid curse. But before he was born, his mother had the witch elder of her tribe do a ritual which she performed to sever magical recognition of Klaus's firstborn line.

This is why he is not considered the firstborn Mikaelson. Ancient magic does not mark him as such. Prophecy does not claim him. The power tied to firstborn Mikaelson witches belongs and always will belong to Hope Mikaelson.

Hope is the miracle. Hope is the firstborn. Hope is the Tribrid.

Koda is a natural-born hybrid who later discovers he is, by blood and classification, an Original Hybrid killable only by white oak.

He is simply Klaus's son.

For 94 years after turning, he walked the world alone. He learned what hunger truly meant. He learned what grief could turn a person into. He learned how easily love could become a curse. By the time he was one hundred and fourteen, he was no longer a boy with a curse.

He was something the world had started whispering about. Then he met Klaus Mikaelson.

Koda was with Klaus for 336 years, which then leads up to the events of The Vampire Diaries. Koda stood beside the Mikaelson family, unknown to them he was family.

To the outside world, he was known as the "witch-made hybrid." To their enemies, he was Klaus's blade. To the Original family, he was something harder to define.

Only later is the truth revealed in The Original's season 2.

Hakoda was Klaus's son. His presence does not alter the outcomes of The Vampire Diaries or The Originals. The major events of both series remain intact. He exists within them in battles, in shadows, in loyalty but canon conclusions stand.

This story begins during the senior year of Hope Mikaelson, Josie and Lizzie Saltzman, Rafael Waithe, Milton Greasley, and Kaleb Hawkins at the Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted.

They are older. Stronger. Closer to adulthood. Monsters still exist. Darkness still circles. But this year feels different. Because this is the year everything changes.

This story follows the established world of Legacies, with a few intentional shifts:

Season 1 events remain largely intact.

Season 2 extends across a full school year. Josie still gets everyone's memories back of Hope after Hope gets out of Malivore.

Landon wants to get back with Hope but she realizes he talks of normalcy and she realizes she can not be normal, which ends their love story for good.

There is no Necromancer storyline.

Hope dies halfway through the year and awakens as the full Tribrid, small difference is Hope has Silver irises instead of gold to differentiate her species to hybrids and werewolves.

Once in control, she ends the Dark Josie storyline like the canon.

The final conflict centers on Triad and Malivore, fought by the core group together.

Landon dies fighting his brother Clarke, the battle ending in the death of them both.

Then this story starts 4 months after Hakoda Mikaelson comes to make sure Hope doesn't have to go through this new part of her life alone.
