From Hall Pass to First Class

"10 more minutes...", I whispered dramatically to myself, confusing some of my peers, "10 more and then the CitySound Live acceptance email comes out... that's if i make it in, of course. My heart was racing. My leg was bouncing. My teeth were shaking in pure nervousness. I was a wreck. PING! That was it, that was the 'PING' of either shame or spotlight. I was ready to see which one I got. I pulled my phone out from my school blazer and read the gold and purple email. Looking back, i probably should've checked it out in one of my school's grimey toilet stalls, but my impulsive mind knew no better. It read:

Congratulations Briar Brooks!

You have been accepted into season 11 of CitySound Live! This means we will personally fly you out to the Big Apple (first class, of course,) roommate you with our agency's most coming of age actor and see if you blossom under the pressure or break. Congratulations, once more and thank you for the stunning application.

Sincerely, CitySound Live.

Next thing I knew, the bell went off and there was a line at the door. After practically running home and shortening what was meant to be a 30 minute walk but became a 15 minute sprint, I told my mum the great news. " Mum!", I said tugging at her burgundy, shoulder-length braids, "CitySound Live, everyone's favourite acting show, want me on their show!" I practically levitated for a second from how high I jumped. But now it was time for her response: would she let me fly to New York City and trust me by myself, or have me cleaning the neighbours houses for £15 a pop? I wish I could say I knew. She put down her laptop, spat out half of her pepperami and exclaimed " MY BABY'S A STAR!", she cheered as she hugged me so tight i thought i was going to pass out, "But..." I hate her infamous buts. " I'll live in a hotel no more than 5 minutes away." I did not care at all, as long as i could be on CitySound Live i'd be happy. And - if i'm being 100% honest- her being so close actually comforted me because she's my mum, she's all i have. In unison we screamed so loud a neighbour cussed at us, "WE'RE GOING TO NEW YORK BABY!"

Once we were all packed and well rested - well, at least one of us, I was fantasising my way through the night, we got to the airport in a cute matching lilac 2 piece (Imagine juicy couture tracksuits but fluffy). I sat in first class, interior decked out in gold and white paint, whilst my mum sat only a few rows behind me in business class. As I entered my sector of the plane, I locked eyes with my ex-crush from my old school: BerryOaks. 'Flip' I thought to myself.

But i remained nonchalant... if that includes tripping over my barbie pink suitcase in front of the whole first class (flight attendants included). My face hit the floor. "Still the same clumsy girl 5 years later, huh?", he said condescendingly. He stretched his arm out and I stupidly accepted it. As i got back to my feet I clapped back, " Still the guy who's bad at jokes 5 years later, huh?", just to distract myself from the awkwardness. He rolled his emerald eyes and sat in his seat Row 5, seat C. "Are you kidding me! They did not inform me i'd be sitting next to you of all people, ugh!" He raised a slit eyebrow, "Who's they? More importantly, what's so bad about me?", he scoffed - genuinely offended.

" City- Never mind" I chose to sit on Seat A as I was not about to sit next to a jerk like Miles.
