"will you marry me?"

There was nothing Shaw wanted less than to go to the Independence Inn and make nice with the woman who hated her and her ex boyfriend. Genuinely, she would rather burrow herself in her apartment with a bowl of ice cream and rent a movie for the night. But, like always, she couldn't just say no to her two teenage employees when they asked things of her so nicely.

"Please!" Melanie asked, smiling persuasively at her boss. "Our parents will be there and they really wanna meet you."

"Her mom," Isla clarified. "I doubt my parents are coming, they really don't care about this town stuff."

"Like Luke doesn't care?" Shaw asked, trying for clarification as she closed down the shop for the day and still trying to decide whether or not to go to the dinner the following night.

"No, Luke is kind of lovable," Isla told her. "My parents sort of don't care. Mel's mom is great, though."

"Yeah, fine, my mom would love to meet you," Melanie nodded. "You should come, it's not like you won't know anyone going."

"Yeah, but Cory will be there being himself and I'm not entirely sure I want to deal with all of that," Shaw said, opening the door to the bakery, showing the girls out.

"Okay, but I raise you," Isla started, walking out the door, locked pinkies with her best friend. "Don't miss out on something you might have fun at because of a man. He doesn't need to have that much power over you."

"Oh, take your own advice," Melanie rolled her eyes at the girl. "But she's right. Cory seems horrible, don't let the guy dictate your life."

Isla and Melanie both gave a little wave as Isla glared at the girl for her comment. They walked away slightly arguing, but their pinkies still intertwined. Shaw had no doubt in her mind that they weren't actually arguing like their friendship depended on it. But Shaw got the sneaking suspicion there was a boy in Isla's life Melanie didn't exactly approve of, but alas, it was none of her business. Yes, she cared about the two girls, and that meant she wasn't going to poke around in their personal lives. After living through it for so many years, Shaw knew just how much of an invasion of privacy it was for an adult to do that.

Wandering upstairs to her apartment, she felt like a ghost. The only place that hadn't been taken over by Cory was slowly doing just that. Stars Hollow was hers, never mind that she'd only been there for a short time, but between her and Cory, it was hers. Those people didn't know about her failed engagement, or rather, attempt.

There was so much that had been happening throughout that time. She was finding a place to buy for the bakery, and Cory was about to go to Europe and was begging her to come with him every day they saw or spoke to each other. It was more than a little annoying to her, especially because he knew her plans and he just didn't care.
