The Cookie Kingdom woke under another perfect sunrise. Light spilled across rooftops glazed in sugar glass, and the breeze carried hints of cinnamon and warm dough. Merchants opened their stalls, children raced through the streets, and the grand castle stood tall as if peace had never left its halls.

Yet beneath that calm, something felt off. A tension hummed through the air, faint enough that most cookies ignored it, strong enough that a few glanced at the horizon with unease.

That silence broke when a furious voice rang through the palace corridor.

"Where were they?!"

The shout hit the walls like a crack of lightning. Several nearby attendants froze, then slipped away before they were caught between  very angry detective and very powerful cookie.

Inside one of the meeting chambers, Almond Cookie stood face to face with Pure Vanilla. They could not have looked more different. Pure Vanilla's robes glowed softly with light magic, though the radiance dimmed under his guilt. Almond Cookie was dressed in his worn detective coat, badge clipped to his chest, hair ruffled from pacing the halls nonstop.

"I cannot believe what you are telling me," Almond said. His voice shook not from rage but from raw fear. "You took them to one of the most dangerous places we know, all so you could uncover what Dark Enchantress Cookie is planning. And instead of answers, instead of even the smallest clue, you return with talk of White Lily... and a new threat to Crispia?"

Pure Vanilla swallowed hard.

Almond slammed his hand on the table. "A threat that kidnapped my kid?!"

The room went still. Even the floating crystals that lit the chamber seemed to dim.

Pure Vanilla raised his eyes. They were full of remorse. "I never intended for Reader Cookie to be harmed. Shadow Milk Cookie is powerful and unpredictable, but I swear he does not want to hurt them. He has lived in isolation for ages. Reader Cookie was the first cookie to reach him, truly reach him. When the fight began turning against him, he panicked. He feared losing the only bond he had left."

Almond stared at him, jaw clenched so tight it trembled.

"He bit them," Almond said slowly. Each word fell sharp as broken glass. "You are asking me to ignore that."

Pure Vanilla faltered. "It was instinct. Not anger. Not cruelty. He acted as someone who has known nothing but loneliness. Reader Cookie gave him a moment of connection. He clung to it the only way he knew how."

"That is not an excuse," Almond snapped. "I do not care how lonely he is. I care about my child. My family is falling apart. Walnut has not stopped crying since last night. I raised Reader Cookie. I trained them. I watched them become strong and kind. I will not let some creature drag them into darkness ...again."

He took a step closer. "If you think your apology calms me, it does not. I want them back."

Pure Vanilla's guilt shifted into resolve. His stance straightened, and the soft glow around him brightened just enough to make Almond pause.

"I want them back too," he said. "Reader Cookie is precious to this kingdom. And to me as well. We will find them. I promise."

Almond breathed out slowly, almost a growl. "Good. Because I am coming with you. You will not stop me. You will not talk me down. You need a detective if we are tracking a creature like Shadow Milk."

Pure Vanilla studied him, then let a small smile form. "I would not have it any other way."

For a moment, the tension in the room eased. Almond turned toward the door, already preparing mentally for the search. Pure Vanilla watched him go, warmth blooming under the worry.

Now I know where Reader Cookie gets their stubborn streak, he thought.

As they stepped out into the corridor, the palace seemed to shift. The sunlight pouring through the stained glass windows no longer felt comforting. It felt like a warning.

Far beyond the kingdom's borders, in a land forgotten by most, Reader Cookie was somewhere in the shadows with a being who had lived too long in fear and hunger. A being who clung to them with teeth and desperation.

Peace still shone over the Cookie Kingdom, but its light had begun to flicker.

The search for Reader Cookie had begun.

Thats all for now!
