Kazuma and Jack had finished helping Carrie move new furniture into the dorm as she didn’t have much on her besides clothes, money for food and a phone to contact her brother in case of emergencies. Betty had helped them, putting the furniture into the living room area and into Carrie’s room.“Yosh. That should be everything.” Kazuma said as he wiped the sweat from his face.

“I can't thank you two enough. Thank you so much, Kazuma, Jack.” Carrie said as she smiled at the two men.

Both of them smiled back at her, just happy to help her out.

“Has Betty been helping you out recently, Carrie?” Kazuma asked the tiny redhead. She was frail and thin enough, it made him and Jack a little nervous to touch her much. Especially with how bulky Jack was.

“Her mom sent some recipes to help me gain enough weight to be healthy.” Carrie said as she looked up at the men.

“Well, just let us know if you need anything else, you hear?” Jack says as he smiles at Carrie.

“I will. And thank you both.” Carrie said to them as she smiled back.

“No need to thank us, Carrie. We’re your friends. We're gonna help you.”

“F-friends…?” Carrie said hesitantly as she held her hands together.

“You okay, Carrie?” Betty asked, thinking she was getting overwhelmed. “Why don’t you lay down, and check your blood sugar. I put your supplies in your room.”

“It isn't that, Betty. I’m okay.” Carrie said to Betty, reassuring her. “It's just…I never had friends before. My family life back home was…never the best.”

Betty looked at Carrie and held her hands. “Don't you worry, Carrie. We’ll take care of you. You're safe here.”

“Thank you. All of you.”

Jack smiled at Carrie. But in the back of his mind, he could tell that she was hiding something.

A couple days later at HSO, Kazuma had been working with Jack on his ability to fight, whenever the Texan didn’t have homework or football practice. However, something kept bothering Jack.

“Something on your mind, Jack?” Kiyomasa, looking at the newest of the riders.

“Huh? Oh, it’s just something about our friend, Carrie. She’s hiding something and was scared of me and Kazuma when she saw us at first. …I’ve never seen that much fear in someone’s eyes before.”

“...I see. If you want, we could do some research. See if we can find her some safety after she graduates.” Kiyomasa said, patting the boy's shoulder.

“Thank you, Mr. Kuroshima.” Jack said as he put on a pair of boxing gloves. “Now…you said that this is a practice fight, right Kazuma?”

“Mhm.” Kazuma nods.

“... That's basically what sparring is. Have you not watched any fights before?” Lewis raised his eyebrow.

“Oh, shut your mouth! The only thing I mainly watched was westerns and football growing up!” Jack hollered.

“...That explains the lack of brain cells."

“Why, you motherf-”

“BOYS! ENOUGH!” Aerinth said, hands on her hips, her loud voice causing both Lewis and Jack to flinch.

“...Sorry, Ms. Aerinth.”

“Sorry.”

Kazuma just sighed and shook his head. “Anyway… Since you're Torga's descendant, we have to make sure you can handle yourself in a fight, Jack.”
