Matt's pov𖧧:
Hand in hand, Josie and I start the slow walk back to the beach house. We talked for a while on the sand, about the future, how this was going to work, and honestly, I'm still a little stunned by how natural it all feels. Like nothing shifted, we just finally admitted what's been true for a long time.

I'm pulled out of my thoughts by the sound I'll never get tired of, Josie's laugh. I glance at her, then follow her eyes to the beach house window. Sure enough, all of our friends are blatantly staring at us from behind the glass. The second they realize we're looking, they all duck down, completely unconvincing.

Josie snorts. "So... what do we do now?" I shrug with a grin. "Well... I guess we can kiss in front of people now."

She laughs again, shaking her head, but I pull her in gently and kiss her. And this is something I could definitely get used to. The moment doesn't last long, though, because suddenly the front door flies open and Madi sprints out barefoot, her face lit up like a firework.

"JOSIE! Did he ask you? Please tell me he asked you! I swear I will murder him if he didn't ask you, oh my god, did he give you the necklace?! He better have given you the necklace!" She's talking so fast it's almost impossible to keep up.

Josie just laughs and yells back, "YES! He did!"

She barely finishes the sentence before Madi barrels into her, hugging her so tight they almost fall over. Josie's still giggling when Madi pulls back, eyes wild with excitement.

"My best friend has a boyfriend!" she squeals. "This is so exciting, we have to call Tasia, and my mom! Oh my god, my mom is gonna be so happy! Come on!"

Just like that, Madi grabs Josie's hand and starts dragging her back into the house. Josie throws a grin over her shoulder at me, one of those full-of-love smiles that tells me this, all of this, is exactly how it was meant to happen. Nick, Chris, and Shawn are waiting at the door, all of them grinning like they just watched what they have been waiting for, for months.

"You finally did it!" Chris says, clapping a hand on my back.

Nick smirks sarcastically. "I've never been prouder to call you my brother."

Shawn crosses his arms and nods. "So... spill it. How'd you pull it off?"

I can't help but laugh, cheeks already hurting from how long I've been smiling. And as I step inside the house, i'm ready for everything to change and for once i'm not scared.

Josie's pov୨ৎ:
When I wake up the next morning, the spot next to me is completely empty. For a second, I question everything. Did last night actually happen? Did he really ask me to be his girlfriend? It felt too real to have been a dream, but the silence makes me second-guess.

I roll over and grab my phone from the nightstand, and my eyes catch the photo of my mom sitting beside it. She's smiling in that familiar way, soft and proud. I think she'd like Matt. I think she'd be proud of me too, for letting someone in, for trusting again.

Without thinking much more, I slowly sit up, my legs hanging over the warm edge of the mattress. My eyes are still heavy with sleep, my hair a mess. But as I round the corner and peek into the kitchen, my heart does that soft, slow thing I didn't know it was capable of. There's Matt, already up, focused on whatever he's making.
