She drifted in and out of consciousness struggling to stay afloat in the water- or was it air? She was too lightheaded to think. Clank! Clash! " You stupid, selfish little bastard! How dare you raise your voice to me- " the voices clashed against each other in the living room, "ugh just shut up! You never let me to anything,"
Elara lay in bed as footsteps bounded past her room into her older sisters, that's when the next pair of footsteps seeped closer as she bolted out of bed into appropriate school wear "15 minutes be ready" he father said with a stern expression as her mother stood beside him.
The drive was long- and smelt of the complete opposite of a fresh new car. 10 minutes late. The teacher paused and grimaced as the class turned toward the door, he muttered something about 'always late' Mr.galeo had never been to fond of her. Class was a blur but thankfully the day had finished in the blink of an eye.
She didn't know if it was the cold winter air surrounding her or the awkwardness lingering in the house whatever it was no amount of blankets comforted her. "Dinners ready" her parents called from the kitchen, chicken and broccoli. It would have been ok if it wasn't for the past week in a row. After dinner she lay in bed counting the hours in her head. Her pillow turned into cold, stone wall, waking her up as the dew on the moss soaked her back-or at least she thought she was awake, to find she was surrounded by the thick fog.
Elara was usually up for an adventure although this was not quite what one would expect, the wall seemed as though it reached the clouds and the ground was a mix between soft soil and thick layers of moss. She stood up holding the wall to maintain balance yet her clumsiness got the better of her. She felt as if she would fall forever until she realised she was back in her bed. That night she couldn't sleep her brain buzzed and hummed until the early hours of the morning when she decided to go for a walk in the park.
As the sun rose it showed hints of red so did her ebony hair.
Black. The sunset disappeared in a blink. Black. Night. Fog. Thick fog hung in the air, but this time she wasn't say against a wall. A tight rope dug into her wrists as small callusesed hands wrapped ropes around her ankles. She let out a yelp and the creature looked up with a hint of insanity in its eyes "the prisoner has awakened" it called out to others, whatever it was. "Who are you!" Elara said as her spine shook. Hello. A high pitched scratchy voice echoed in her head leaving traces of pain, let's do things the easy way but of course if you prefer the hard way that's more than fine to. So what's it gonna be? She tried to speak but a rope was already tight around her neck, the creature let out shrill of laughter as they scurried inside the stone wall closing it as if there was never an entrance, the wall shook the ground as it connected leaving no trace. Her pale skin quickly became blue as her thoughts blurred and her body throbbed, was this easy or hard way? She thought as the fog smothered her like a blanket as she screamed in her mind begging to wake up. Her ankles, free from the ropes yet she still felt the Erie comfort of the fog hugging her body. Screech, a cool blade pressed into her neck cutting away at the rope. She felt lifeless as she finally hit the ground with a thump, the hands touched her leaving a trace of goosebumps as the hands grunted dragging her body across the slimy moss. Before she regained her ability to open her eyes it disappeared with a rumble once again leaving no trace. She looked down at her bruised ankles and wrists barely able to move her neck, it took her at least 3 hours to stand up and once she finally took a step she was back at the park. She ran home, she didn't know why she ran but it felt right, as soon as she burst through the door a screech echoed through the house "I told you we are not breaking up!" She immediately recognised it as Erica's, her sister was lecturing her 'perfect boyfriend' for the 3rd time this week. "Mum. Dad. This is all your fault can't you just be rich like Sophie's parents because thanks to you my boyfriend's breaking up with me again." Elara snuck to her room unsure why she didn't say anything to her parents. Her mind continued to wander each time more exhausting.
She plugged in her iPod and dozed off-this time staying in her bed.
"Where have you been loser?" Thank gosh this house had become way to quiet. Her head hurt more then ever like she'd been punched whilst having a migraine and brain freeze all at once while listening to her sisters music.
And just like that she was surrounded by fog, this time it felt much longer like she'd been trapped for weeks maybe even months? She never seemed to get hungry and time passed strangely here. There had still been no sight of the things who had attempted to murder her or the one who saved her, she wondered if that was a good thing or a bad thing. She had become used to shifting into a foggy faraway land and waking up like she just to a quick Power Nap, it even became refreshing having all this time alone but that changed once 1-2 days became 1-2 weeks then that became 1-2 months.
Home was similar to the land of fog, as much as she hated mr.galeo she would much rather be in his class than home right now, her parents finally decided to divorce leaving her stuck in the middle of the loud awkwardness. They both still lived in the house together as neither was yet willing to move. Elara felt like she'd never escape the arguments, her father had bought a new girl over who or mother of course scared off. They had been bringing new people to the house every week trying to prove something to each other.
She could've sworn her eyes had been set aflame, she leaped out of bed and ran to the bathroom. She sobbed causing her vision to blur but she swore her usually brown eyes where
glowing with an unnatural green hue. The world before her began to change as she stumbled towards the door she tried to speak but nothing could come out, barely a whimper. Her vision mixed between her bathroom floor and fog, she was used to drifting into the other world but this time it felt much different- as if she was being locked in. Her body began to shake and her eyes where a glowing mess of green, her breaths became short and sharp as she clutched onto anything in the bathroom. The pop song she had been blasting on her iPod glitched as she scratched her eyes wishing she could stop the madness.
