Jake's pov:

The moment I stepped out of the hall, the heavy doors shut behind me with a dull thud.
It felt like they sealed away the air too.

My chest tightened.

Why... why does he always treat me like this?
I wiped my cheek quickly, afraid someone would see the tears. The long corridor was empty, quiet... the opposite of the chaos inside that hall.

I walked slowly, dragging my feet as if they carried the weight of years.
Every step echoed, sounding as lonely as I felt.

I leaned against a pillar, staring at the marble floor.

"I wish... just once... you would look at me and care," I whispered to no one.
A laugh escaped my lips-broken, humorless. "Just once..."

Where did it all go wrong?
When did love turn into fear? When did "husband" turn into "burden"?

I didn't know how long I walked. Minutes? Maybe hours.
I just kept moving-anywhere that wasn't near him.

Until-

A loud voice boomed through the speakers of a TV mounted on the wall near the lobby.

"The Best Doctor Award goes to..."

I paused unconsciously, glancing at the screen.

And then the name hit me like lightning.

"Dr. Park Sunghoon!"

My entire body froze.

My fingers trembled.
My breath stopped midway.

Park Sunghoon.

That name...
That voice in my memory...
That smile I failed to protect...
That boy who once held my hand when I cried...
My childhood best friend.

The person I left behind.
The person whose heart I broke.
The person who, once upon a time, was my whole world.

I stumbled closer to the TV, staring at the screen as if I could reach through it.

There he was.

Walking onto the stage.
Elegant. Confident. Beautiful.
A man carved by success and pain.
