A Strange Place

Uzi had no idea how she ended up here. One moment she was asleep in her own bed, and the next she found herself on an island, surrounded by a group of teenagers. They stared at her; she stared back, confused and disoriented. Not knowing where she was or who these people were, Uzi retreated to a corner of the unfamiliar building and refused to speak to anyone.

That changed when one of them finally approached her. The girl introduced herself as Courtney and gently asked, "Are you okay?"

I hesitated before answering, "I don't know where I am, and I really don't like having this many people around me, okay?"

Courtney gave a small smile. "You're on Total Drama, and this building is where we eat. Can I ask your name?"

"It's Uzi Doorman. Or just Uzi," I replied.

Before anyone else could speak, a guy with a bright green mohawk stepped forward, giving me a skeptical look. "Really, Courtney? You're just going to talk to her like she's one of us?"

Courtney turned to face him, clearly annoyed. "Duncan, she's a person. Maybe you should try being a decent human being for once."

Uzi watched as Courtney and Duncan argued, then finally pushed herself to her feet and stepped out of the corner. "Hey, maybe you could show a little respect to both of us," she said, trying to keep her voice steady. "I have no idea how long I'm going to be stuck here."

Duncan glanced at her with a shrug. "Whatever. I don't really care what you have to say."

Uzi rolled her eyes. "You know, you remind me of someone I used to know back on my planet. She wasn't very nice either, and she treated my boyfriend like dirt. Honestly, I think you two would get along great."

Duncan scowled. "Don't compare me to anyone. I'm not that bad."

Courtney jumped in, crossing her arms. "Oh, really? You say you're not mean, but you're always picking on Harold. Maybe you should just leave him alone for once."

Duncan scowled and stormed out of the building. Uzi and Courtney watched him go, and as soon as he was gone, the rest of the group started introducing themselves all at once. Uzi quickly lost track of everyone's names and had to ask them to slow down.

Once the introductions were over, Courtney offered to show Uzi around. Uzi agreed—she still had no idea where she was, and a tour sounded like a good place to start.

Courtney and Uzi stepped outside, and sunlight spilled over them. Almost immediately, wisps of steam began to rise from Uzi's skin. Courtney's eyes widened in alarm. "Uh, why is your whole body steaming?"

Uzi glanced down and shrugged. "Oh, right. I forgot—the sun affects me differently here than on my planet. I'm not really supposed to be out in it, but don't worry, I won't burn up or anything."

Courtney still looked a little concerned but nodded. "Okay... let's get to the cabins first. And maybe later, you can tell me more about where you're from."
