Author's POV
Trivita sat crossed legged on her bed, in front of her laptop. The glow of her laptop flickered over her face, while a loose strand of her thick brown hair fell on her cheek. She absentmindedly pushed it back and focused on the screen. Her jacket hung loosely over her tank top, a quiet shied away from the world as she was comfortable in her own little world- her bedroom, her comfort zone.
Just then, she heard a knock on her door. "Who is it?" she asked, her voice laced with annoyance. The last thing she wanted was some disturbance- just as she had finally settled in and gotten comfortable.
"Can we come in?" her parents asked playfully, in unison.
"YES" she declared.
"Wassup beta?" her dad greeted her and patted her back.
"Nothing much dad, just trying to learn python." she replied nonchalantly.
Hearing her reply, her mother furrowed her eyes brows and asked " Why that all of a sudden?"
"What do you mean all of a sudden, Mom? I have always wanted to learn coding" she rolled her eyes.
"But beta you aren't doing engineering, then why do you need to learn coding?" her mother enquired and wiggled her eye brows.
"Mom, can we not have this discussion again?" she muttered and averted her gaze from her parents.
"Trivita, we have come here to remind you to edit your youtube videos but we are deeply disappointed to see that you are learning coding."
This time it was her father who spoke up, crossing his arms like a disappointed headmaster. His voice dripped with betrayal, as if she has cheated on her family with python.
"DAD.MOM. Please, can you both leave me alone and let me do what I am doing? I have no interest in content creation. Like literally zero. Actually, less than zero- a negative interest. "
Her dad opened his mouth to say something, while her mom gasped. But Trivita didn't pay heed. She raised her hand in defense, and continued to speak.
" BUT YOU BOTH FORCED ME TO JOIN THIS CONTENT CREATORS UNIVERSITY. HOW UNCOOL IS THAT? I've always wanted to be an Engineer. Build missiles and do all the cool stuff. I want to do something real instead of getting stuck in this reel world.
she paused, her voice tightening. she shot her dad a glare.
"So dad, I won't be editing any videos. Neither will I shoot any new ones. In fact, if you are so keen about it, then manage my channel also along with yours. Here, take my laptop. Go ahead , edit my videos. Maybe, if you search deeper, you might even find footage of my mental breakdown."
She mocked with sarcasm. Then she dramatically jerked her neck towards her mom and spoke,
"And YOU, mommy dearest?, I'm only going to that uni for formality's sake. I'll drag myself through those meaningless assignments and projects just for marks."
Her gaze then flickered back to her dad.
"That's when I'm gonna actually shoot and edit videos dad- just for formality's sake. "
She turned back at her mom for the final blow,
"And when I get back home? I'll return back to my coding. Something real ,you know? Unlike your pointless reels and dad's youtube videos. "
Trivita's annoyance had leveled up, just like Corona Virus, it had mutated into something more powerful- A fully blow angst.
"TRIVITA. ENOUGH." her parents yelled her in unison.
"Suna Dhruvansh, woh kya bol rahi hai? My god, our daughter has officially chosen logic over likes." her mom dramatically gasped and shed crocodile tears.
"Yeah Maya, I can't believe she finds our videos pointless. Literally duniya aage jaa rahi hai aur yeh ladki ek buddhi maa ki tarah baat kar rahi hai?" while her dad cringed.
"I thought it was just a phase, Dhruv. But this..." her mom paused, not knowing what to speak.
"Hayee Ram, Triviii. Mein Pintu mama, Bubbli bua aur Baby mausi ko kya jawab dungi jab woh tumhare subscribers ke baare mein pooche." she dramatically put her hand on her head.
"Haan beta, Bubbli's daughter has 150k subs, Pintu's son just won the 'comic creator of the year' award. And Baby didi's twins.." he paused trying to recollect what his SIL's children do.
"-They are top wattpad writers. " her mom chimed in.
(dedicated to @Deewanixwriters haha )
"Exactly. Top- writers, so talented and unique. " he nodded his head in an understanding manner.
But all this didn't affect Trivita. She didn't give a f*** about her relatives. She just made funny expressions and continued to speak gibberish trying to mimic her parents. She shook her head and gritted her teeth.
"Fine, I'm going. If this is what you want, I'll attend that goddamn university and do my projects and assignments sincerely. But as I have mentioned earlier, once I'm back home, I'll go back to my love- python. This is a non-negotiable. "
Her parents let out a sigh of relief. They were neither happy nor sad after hearing this. They were just..satisfied.
"Tch tch Trivi, so adamant!" her mother taunted.
" Darling, let's leave before she gets mad at us again." her dad put an arm around her mom.
"We will talk about this later, we will convince her later." he whispered ,such that only she could hear, and took her out of the room.
Trivita gave a tight-lipped smile to her parents and wished them goodnight. After which she closed her bedroom door and leaned against it.
"Phew." she let out a sigh.
"That was wild." she muttered to herself.
"Alright, Clowns creators university, here I come." she declared to the walls, her voice heavy with sarcasm.
