|^|Just this once|^| -The Amazing Digital Circus

Start from the beginning

Jax took a menacing step forward, causing Pomni to take a fearful step back, "Look, Jax, I didn't mean-"

The furious rabbit was now towering over the frightened jester. He folded his hands behind his back, then slowly leaned down to her eye level to sneer, "Let me make one thing clear, Pomni. You don't know me. All you see me as, is the one to crack the jokes. And you, and the rest of the group, either laugh, or take it. I'm the jokester, and you're the joke. There's nothing more to it."

Pomni tried to keep eye contact, not wanting Jax to think he was scaring her. Though the small tinkling of her bells was giving away her trembling stature.

Pomni took a deep, shaky breath, and tried to face off Jax's glare with her own as she spoke, "You can keep telling yourself that, but that's only going to result in your down fall," her glare softened a bit as she continued, "You're scared, Jax, we all are. But please, don't make this worse. You may think your inflicting the most pain by pushing the others around, by using them for your own amusement. But in reality, you're hurting yourself the most. You're pushing others away, but for what? What are you hoping to get out of all of this? What-"

"I SAID YOU DONT KNOW ME!" Jax suddenly snapped, causing Pomni to stumble back in shock.

Jax was even taken aback by his own outburst. He just couldn't handle how every word was slowly chipping away at the truth, buried deep under years of nasty pranks and resentment.

His voiced echoed through the cavern bellow them, so loud it almost felt like it was rumbling through the earth.

That's when they realized the ground was actually rumbling.

Pomni-in shock-didn't realize that she has stepped closer to the edge of the cavern, and let out a yelp when the earth underneath her broke off and tumbled down the cliff.

As quickly as she could, she grabbed hold of a dead root, and was now helplessly dangling over a 200 foot drop.

To her horror, Pomni felt the root snag under her weight, the sound of it splintering felt like it was shattering her eardrums. She did not have much time before she too fell into the abyss bellow.

The jester tried to reach up and grab anything she could get a hold of, but her trembling hands landed on loose dirt and gavel. Pushing up with her feet was useless as well, her shoes didn't have any grip, and mixed with the weak gravel, it was only causing her to slip down more.

"Jax, p-please help!" Pomni pleaded, her voice cracking.

She knew if she fell, she wouldn't die. She would probably reset back in the circus once she hit the ground.

But that still didn't stop her heart from leaping to her throat every time the root shifted. Even in this world, the fear of falling was just as strong as it was in the real world.

"Jax, I-I'm sorry! Just-please help me up..." Pomni pleaded again to the purple rabbit.

But he just stood there frozen. His expression blank, completely unreadable.

Meanwhile in his head, two different sides of him were fighting for control.

Just let her fall, she wont die, besides, you'll get a good laugh out of it.

But the genuine fear in her eyes spoiled the thought of it being hilarious.

What was wrong with him?

Why?

Why was he struggling with this so much?

Why can't he get himself to just leave her there, without a care in the world?
