The Dancer
You saw him first last year
In one of your classes
And you noticed that
He danced like a God
And the funny thing
About that is,
Not a lot
Of boys
Dance
And immediately he caught your eye
You’ve never seen him before
But now, since eighth grade,
He’s all you can look at
The way he moved
The way he jammed
Made you
Want to
Dance with him
The way his feet
Skipped on the ground
Amazing
How have you never seen it?
You vowed to get him
Somehow, someday
You vowed
To dance
Like him in some way
Because you knew
You could be as good as him
And maybe then
He’d like you
He’d notice you
The boy can dance
Dance like a river
Tracing through the sand
And you want him
Maybe someday
To dance with you
Although you’re pretty sure
He will never notice you
There’s a reason
He’s brave enough
To dance in the middle of P.E.
He and you are on polar
Opposites
Of the social totem pole
He’s at the top
You
Hit
Rock
Bottom
But you have something
Going for you
Music flows in your veins
So even though
He may never
Notice you on his own
You can still
Draw his eyes
If, maybe when,
Should you find the courage,
To dance
And keep dancing
