~~~~~Chapter 1~~~~~
Start from the beginning
A little later, Zoe invites us to one last thing.
"We're going to grab some pizza before everybody goes home. I'd love for you guys come." She says as we walk out of the closing skate park.
"Well, we'd love to come, Zoe. Thanks for asking." Says Bailey with a wink.
"Wow, Bailey- Subtlety is not your thing, is it?" I say. She smiles
"What? You like pizza, don't you?"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Let's get this over with." I say, because I know what they're up to.
There's a small pizza joint a couple blocks away. We get there about fifteen minutes before it closes, but they were expecting us. I guess they come here a lot.
We order a large Hawaiian pizza, and sit outside at a picnic table. Zoe, Bailey, and I are digging into our first slice when blondie from the skate park comes out with a pizza of his own and a few friends by his side.
Zoe waves him over (suprise, suprise). I pick off a piece of pineapple from my pizza and flick it at Bailey's face.
She gives me a face like 'What? Be mature'.
I wrinkle my noise as if to say 'No, ew'.
She gives me a blank look like 'Really? We're going to do this?'.
I narrow my eyes 'You wanna go?'.
She scowls at me 'Oh yeah. Come at me'.
"Hey Sam!!" Says Zoe interrupting our facial conversation. That name. No. No. Oh god, no! It's 'the Sam'. I knew I recognized him.
Bailey and I stare at each other, dumb struck.
"This is Bailey, and this is Kat. Sit down." Zoe says gesturing to the spot beside me. Bailey smile and waves, but she looks like she could lose it at any second. Me, I don't find this that funny.
"Hey, Kat. You look good." He says with a sly smile. I feel my cheeks grow warm, but I don't look away from my pizza. Meanwhile, Bailey looks like she might burst at the seams from the laughter she's trying so hard to contain.
(Oh, you're probably wondering the story behind this embarrassing situation. Well, the summer I was turning thirteen I went to summer camp with Bailey. It was great. We made fires, built forts, played games, and swam in the lake. Probably would have been the best week of my life if not for that last night. Oh, that last night. That embarrassing night. It was dark outside, probably midnight because all the counselors were fast asleep. My cabin had the wonderful idea to go swimming one last time, when no one was out. So we sneaked out of our cabin, and down to the lake. It was good fun. It started out safe. We were up to our knees, spashing each other. It escalated to swimming out to the middle of the lake. I don't know who hade the bright idea to take our clothes off. I mean it was dark, just us girls. And we didn't like swimming in soaked clothes. So, what's the harm, right? Hah, right. Until you can't find your clothes. But just to make it even better, one of the boy cabins hade the same idea to go swimming the last night, too. So by time we were ready to get out, they were running down to get in. Things got awkward. Most of the girls were smart, running to the woods close by. But a handful of us thought we could make it to the cabin, get dressed, and bring back clothes to save the others. Well, thanks to perfect timing, the four brave girls ran into the cabin of boys.... I can't even think about without shuddering. The pack of boys being led by a kid named Sam. At that time, he was a scrawny, acne-faced, cruel, kid. I think you can guess what happened after that. We put a butt-load of poison ivy in his suit case before he left, but still, I wanted more revenge. The next summer, I didn't want to go in fear he would be there. I was assured he had moved far away, but I still didn't go. Who knew he moved to California and grew into a cute, sixteen year old, skater dude. But, that's my luck for you.)
I turn toward him and smile.
"You too, Sam. It's a small world, huh?" I say picking at my pizza.
"Yes it is. How have you been?" He says messing with me.
"I'm good. I'm...yeah."
"I didn't know if it was you at first, you look so different. You got really hot. I mean, what has it been, three years?"
"Something like that." I say with a fake smile.
"We should go swimming sometime." He says with a wink. I look him in the eye.
"I swear, I will cut you." I say with murder in my eyes. He just chuckles and starts eating his pizza. I am no longer that little girl at summer camp three years ago, I've matured. And I need revenge on this slob. I pull out my phone and text Bailey.
'Distacted him. Get him away from the table for a minute.'
She replies 'k'
She texts something else, then I see Zoe nod. She must have just gotten in on this. Zoe takes me by suprise. She stands up, walks around to my side of the table, and starts kissing Sam. Maybe that's how she knows everyone, she kisses them all. Bailey looks at me like 'now!'
So I grab his pizza,and pull off the cheese. I reach down to get a hand-full of dirt and sand. I spread it evenly across his pizza, then put the cheese back as best I can. Dump the left-over dirt into his drink. I brush my hands off, and act natural. Zoe's out doing herslfe a little, but Sam isn't helping either. Um, gross. I look the other direction and roll my eyes. Finally, I guess they feel they're done, Zoe goes back to her seat like nothing happened.
"Look at the time!" Says Bailey standing up. I stand, and gather the rest of my pizza to go. I don't what comes over me, but I dump the rest of my drink on his head as we walk away. Zoe gives me a high five, and we head back to Bailey's beach house.
When we get to the house, I take a shower and get ready to go to bed.
Before Bailey turns the lights out she says "Tonight was fun. Some bad memeries, but we got vengeance."
"Not all of it." I say fluffing my pillow.
"Wow, you're bitter."
"I am. And I regret nothing." She laughs like I'm kidding.
"Well, goodnight." She says turnign off the lights. She crawls into bed.
"Goodnight." I sing.
With that, we fell fast asleep and dream about good camp memories.
