The cafeteria was buzzing with noise, trays clattering, students chatting at every table.

The air was filled with the smell of warm food, laughter, and the occasional shout from across the room.

Beomgyu sat at a corner table with Huening Kai, his body folded neatly in his seat.

He poked at his plate absentmindedly, doe-like eyes drifting toward the big windows where sunlight spilled into the room.

His mind wasn't in the cafeteria at all it was stuck on one moment from the morning.

That fall.

Yeonjun's cold eyes inches away. His strong arm steadying Beomgyu's fragile waist.

The warmth that had lingered in his chest afterward.

"Gyu, are you even listening to me?" Huening Kai's voice cut through his thoughts.

Beomgyu blinked quickly, flustered. "H-Huh? What?"

Kai sighed dramatically, leaning back with his silver hair falling into his eyes. "I was saying... about the party. It's this weekend, remember? My parents are making it huge. I'm gonna wear this really shiny black suit like a star. Everyone's gonna be blinded by how gorgeous I look" Huening Kai said.

Beomgyu gave a small laugh, his pout softening. "You're already shiny enough, Kai" Beomgyu said.

"Exactly!" Huening Kai winked, then leaned forward. "And, of course, you're coming with me. My best friend has to be there. No excuses" Huening Kai said.

Beomgyu nodded slowly. "Mm... I'll come."

But even as Beomgyu said it, his thoughts wandered again. His heart tightened, and without realizing, the words slipped from his lips in a small whisper.

"...I think I'm starting to like Yeonjun" Beomgyu said.

Huening Kai froze. His fork clattered against the tray.

For a full moment, his usually talkative mouth said nothing. Then, with wide eyes, he leaned closer.

"Wait. What? Did you just-? Beomgyu! Are you serious?!" Huening Kai said.

Beomgyu's cheeks flamed, but he didn't take the words back. He looked down at his hands, playing nervously with his sleeves.

"I-I don't know... I just... I can't stop thinking about him. I know it's stupid." Beomgyu said.

"Stupid?" Huening Kai's voice rose in disbelief, though not loud enough for others to hear. "You know who you're talking about, right? That's Choi Yeonjun. The most popular guy in this entire university. Every girl, every boy they all want him. And what does he do? He ignores them all. He's cold, Gyu. He doesn't even look at people"

"I know..." Beomgyu's lips trembled into a small pout, his long lashes lowering. "I keep telling myself not to think about him. I keep trying to ignore it. But I can't. My heart... it won't listen." Beomgyu said.

Huening Kai's chest softened at the fragile honesty in Beomgyu's voice.

He sighed heavily, pushing his tray away. "
"You're just going to hurt yourself, Gyu. I don't want to see you cry because of him."

Beomgyu gave a tiny smile, though it didn't reach his eyes. "Maybe I will... but I can't stop my heart. Even if I try."

Huening Kai watched his best friend, his silver brows furrowing. He hated seeing Beomgyu so lost.

After a moment, he reached out and gently ruffled Beomgyu's black hair. "Then... if you can't stop it..."

Beomgyu looked up curiously.

"...Let's try for you," Huening Kai finished with a small grin. "Because if you don't even try, you'll just regret it later. And regret hurts worse than rejection."

Beomgyu blinked, his doe eyes wide. "Kai..."

"Don't look at me like that," Huening Kai teased, trying to lighten the mood. "I'm not doing this because I like drama... okay, maybe a little because I like drama but mostly because you're my best friend. If you really like him... then I'll help you." Huening Kai said.

Beomgyu's chest warmed at Huening Kai's words, his lips curving into a shy, grateful smile. "Thank you, Kai..." Beomgyu said.

The two finished their lunch quietly, Beomgyu's mind swirling with thoughts of Yeonjun.

Even as Kai tried to joke about his party outfit, Beomgyu only half-listened, lost in the storm inside his chest.

Afterward, they stepped out into the university garden.

The autumn breeze carried the faint scent of flowers, and the sound of chatter from other students filled the open space.

Beomgyu's small hands brushed against the leaves of the bushes as they walked slowly down the stone path.

Kai stuffed his hands in his pockets, glancing at Beomgyu. "So... if you really want to try, you need to be ready. He's not an easy one to crack."

"I know..." Beomgyu said softly, his eyes on the ground. "But... I'll try. Even if it's hard."

Huening Kai gave him a long look, then nodded. "Alright. Then I'll back you up."

Beomgyu's lips curled into a small, hopeful smile. But then, as they turned the corner of the garden, his steps faltered.

Not far away, leaning casually under a tree, were Yeonjun, Soobin, and Taehyun.

The three of them stood like they always did perfect, untouchable. Soobin's bunny-like lips curved as he laughed at something, his dimples showing.

Taehyun leaned against the trunk with his arms crossed, calm and sharp-eyed.

And Yeonjun stood tall, hands in his pockets, his cold gaze focused on Soobin and Taehyun as they spoke.

The sunlight made his black hair shine, he was breathtaking without even trying.

Beomgyu's heart skipped, his breath catching in his throat. His doe eyes softened as he stared, cheeks heating against the cool breeze.

'I don't know what's going to happen' he thought, his small fingers tightening against his sleeve. 'But... I'll try my best. Even if it hurts, I want to try'

Yeonjun didn't notice him at least, Beomgyu thought he didn't. But for the briefest second, Yeonjun's fox-like eyes flickered in his direction, unreadable.

Beomgyu quickly looked away, his chest racing.

Huening Kai, watching his best friend's reaction, gave a quiet smile. "Alright, Gyu. Then this is the start."

The bell rang in the distance, calling students back to class.

Beomgyu tore his gaze away from Yeonjun, Beomgyu walked beside Kai. His steps were small, but his heart felt heavy with something new a quiet determination.

Whatever came next, he had already decided. He would try.
