Blood drips out of the small, self inflicted, wound on my finger. I look up at my oppressor while suddenly pulling my small pocketknife with my initials "BE" carved into the wooden side.
"Please leave me alone, I don't want to fight" I say with a slight stutter and very noticeable fear in my voice. As much as I hoped he would back off, he just kept moving forward, he didn't even seem to notice my presence, it was like my voice was suddenly muted. A cold sweat drips from off my forehead as I suddenly hold my finger, still bleeding, directly at the man coming ever closer to me
"Forgive me for this" I muttered, still scared for the fight to come.
As I finished my words the large caucasian looking man suddenly started rushing towards me, coming closer into view. He had short brown hair with hints of grey strands intertwined in and seemed to be more middle aged. I take a sudden step back as he started lunging towards me but realized what I had to do. I hold my wounded finger in place and focus all of my energy into that point. Suddenly, like magic, the blood that was once dripping onto the floor solidified and became a knife, more sharp than any factory could ever make. In a split second decision I throw the, somewhat small, knife right towards the man's neck as he's extremely close to reaching me. In an instant the knife hits him straight on and creates a huge, gushing wound on his neck. I tried to throw with just enough force to not be fatal but I have no idea if him, or anybody, could live through an injury like that one. The brown haired man shows true, genuine fear in his eyes as he falls to the ground choking on his own blood.
"Holy shit I didn't mean to hurt him that bad" I thought in a panic. "He might die at this rate." In an instant I tore off a piece of my jacket planning to tie it around his neck wound. I approach the man and pull out my blood forged knife, and in an instant it suddenly liquefies, turning back into my normal blood, mixing on the ground with the brown haired man's. I know he was the one who was attacking me but I don't believe I could ever take the life of another, it feels cruel. Why should I dictate when somebody else is done with their own adventure.
"Sadly this fashioned bandage is all I can do for him currently but it's better than nothing" I thought, just hoping that he would make it. I lick my still somewhat bleeding finger and call the police to tell them where this man was located.
"Even if I want him to survive, I won't sacrifice my livelihood just to see that happen" I thought as I ran off in the direction of my apartment.
Nobody could've ever guessed that real magic would cost such a price as this, but that's just the reality of our world. There's no "free of charge" way to use it, you must make a sacrifice, and that sacrifice must come from your own body and pain. Around three years ago a new particle was discovered in the earthed atmosphere and scientists had absolutely no idea where it came from, all they knew was that it was extremely conductive and built up in the human body over time. Among the first people to discover the secret of this energy were depressed and suicidal people. They purposely injured themselves which caused the built up energy to give them unexplainable control over their severed liquids and body parts. After much research our society still doesn't know why these particles cause this strange effect to our bodies, but we do know if we build up too much of this energy we will combust and die. But I guess that's just real life, nothing just magically comes for free, you truly do have to pay for everything
