Hey mommy' said Mary

Hey princess why are up so early?' Said Jane , Mary's mom

you've forgotten?? Mommy ... like always' said Mary while going back to her room

Jane was following her ' What sweetie?'

' today is Michael's birthday and we are going out of town with some friends , we will be back at sunset.

Alright fine then go and prepare , I'll leave you some money on the table, don't forget to enjoy , you know and I'll really wish you guys can be more than just friends' Jane said

Oh no not again really.' Said Mary before locking herself in her room.

Mary Donovan and Michael Reed had known each other since they were five. Their families lived two houses apart in the quiet town of Havenbrooke, a place where tradition and superstition clung stubbornly to cobblestone streets and whispering old oaks.

To anyone watching them grow up, Mary and Michael were inseparable partners in adventure, troublemakers in school, confidants through heartbreak and triumph.

When Mary lost her grandmother, it was Michael who sat with her all night under the stars, listening to her cry until exhaustion claimed her.

When Michael's dog died, Mary was the one who bought him a new collar 'for the next one,' because she couldn't bear to see him broken.

Best friends. Soul-deep companions. But never lovers.

By the time Mary was 26, she was deeply in love with Daniel her college sweetheart, a gentle man with bookish glasses and a smile that melted her defenses.

Michael, meanwhile, had found Emily, a fiery redhead who challenged him in ways Mary never had. Both of them were content in their relationships, certain of where their futures lay.

Until the pact returned.

Hummm I can't believe you're 28 now you need to get married and start having kids.' Said Mary putting hand on his neck.

Everybody laughed.

Mary was sitting down in the sand while all of a sudden she felt, arms robbing her, it was her boyfriend Daniel who was trying to get her in the pool , and he did so.

Why would you do that babe' she was screaming with all her hair wet.' I spend two hours to do my makeup and my hair.' Said Mary with a tear ready to fall

'Oh that's because I love you'. Said Daniel still laughing at her.

Get her out of this water if you don't want to face serious consequences.' Said Micheal while passing through the fence.

Alright , come, come here baby.' Said Daniel before getting himself in the pool because pushed by Michael who was behind him , not knowing that two of them will be in the water.

Not bad.' Said Mary to Michael.

Without me.' Said Emily crossing hands under her chest.

Come baby girl'.

Suddenly she dived into the water.

They had been playing together and gossiping about nonsense things throughout the day.

It was now time to go home, so everyone left the way they had arrived.
