“I have to go, buddy.” He ruffled Nate’s hair, “You be good, okay?”

“Okay!”

He gave me another quick kiss and stood up, “We’re going to have a real date soon!” He trailed,

“You’re mine.” I stated, he waved and disappeared. And then Nate and I went back to the conversation.

“Do you think daddy’s nice?”

“He is nice.”

“I love him.”

“That’s good.”

“Is yours nice too?”

I paused, “Yea, my daddy’s nice too.”

“Does he make people happy too?”

“Well, he makes my mom, Andy, and I happy.”

“Who’s Andy?”

“He’s my big brother.”

“Do I have a big brother too?”

“No, buddy.” I chuckled, “But you will be, one day.” I guess he didn’t understood that,

“Where’s your family?”

“Half way around the world.”

“Why are they so far?”

Kids and their questions. I sighed, “I have to go to school here.”

“Do I have to go to school too?”

“Soon.”

“Do I have to go far away?”

“It’s up to you.”

“Does your daddy make music like mine?”

“He makes people happy by doing other things.”

“Like what?”

“There are a lot of ways to make people happy.” I replied. The truth is, I couldn’t remember what my dad did for a living. I guess he’s fading from my brain. I never asked, and I had no guts to.

“Where’s your daddy?”

“Do you really want to know?”

“Yes, please.”

I exhaled heavily, “He’s in a better place.”

“Where is that?”

“Where do you think it is?”

“Where all the little birdies fly fwee.” He pointed out to the window and to the sky,

I was taken aback, “Why’d you say so?”

“Because you can see everything up there!”

“Yea, that’s where my daddy is.”

            “Can you see him?”

“He’s way up high, you can’t see him.”

            “Do you miss him?”

“I do.” I pursed my lips,

“Sometimes, I miss my daddy too.”

“Your dad’s a busy man, but he’s doing it for you.”

            “What do you mean?”
