"I would recognize you in another lifetime entirely, in different bodies, different times. And I would love you in all of this, until the very last star in the sky burnt out into oblivion." — Recognition, a The Song of Achilles Fanfiction by captainskellington

"Remember Oliver, always protect your little sister no matter what," the young boy nodded, his little hand hesitantly raised to touch his sister's blonde hair. The little baby smiled and giggled. Oliver gently poked the baby's cheeks with his finger, to which the baby responded with wrapping his finger around with her hand.

"Stop being so harsh on him, honey. He's just a child!" Oliver smiled as his mom walked towards them with a plate full of snacks and afternoon tea.

"You were meant to protect your sister," his dad grabbed him by his arms. Oliver blinked his eyes, nodding absentmindedly while eyeing the chocolate brownie on the plate.

"Are you listening?" His dad frowned. Oliver nodded his head. His mom ruffled his hair.

"Come here, sweetie," his mom picked him up and put him in her arms. She picked up the brownies and put them in his hands.

"This is a brownie. We made them together last time, remember?"

"Are you sure this is going to work?"

He smirked, fiddling with a necklace. The necklace's center piece was a shiny iridescent, tear shaped pendant. The pendant shone softly under the moonlight, seemingly out of place in the dark alleyways. He threw the necklace at the other man.

"Are you doubting me?"

"Stop that! This thing's worth more than any of our lives," the other man yelped in surprise. He caught the necklace like a hot potato, putting it down on the table immediately, afraid the pendant was going to break.

The taller man ran his hand through his pink hair, an action he does habitually. He looked at the castle's map that they brought secretly from a black market. The map was quite accurate, so they had an advantage. A blonde younger man was crouched in the corner near them, seemingly uninterested in the conversation. His head poked up, as if knowing what the man was going to say next.

"I've been drugging him slowly for years. They'll start to show soon," the man said, using a pencil to lightly trace over a route. "Once everything is ready, use this passage here. We'll either kidnap the princess or kill her. Depends on how things play out."

"W-what? You didn't tell me we'd have to kill! I'm-" the shorter man stuttered. He didn't have the guts to kill a mouse, much less the princess!

"Are you joining me or not?" The taller man slammed his hand on the table, obviously annoyed. The shorter man trembled, knowing that the taller man had more than twenty ways to let him die painfully if he refused.

"I-I am..."

"That's what I thought,"

Oliver propped himself up with his arms on his bed. It has been a long time since he dreamt of his family. He wiped away the sweat on his forehead. The sun was only starting to light up the sky outside. He sighed, picking up the glass of water left by his nightstand as he walked onto the balcony. His night robe loosely wrapped around him, he felt the cold wind waking him up.
