The apartment felt so empty and hollow, he just needed his friend back. He felt ridiculous for being so sad and heartbroken about this when he was the direct cause of it all.
By week three, Tae had settled into a new routine. A very self destructive one at that.
He barely slept, barely ate, barely even cared about his hygiene. His only solace was coding, he would lose himself in his endless equations and numbers- taking on extra shifts to fill the constantly growing void.
None of it helped, it just kept growing bigger and bigger by the day.
"He said he'd only be gone for a few days. What a liar!" He'd scream.
"My entire world is crumbling and he's off probably kissing some man that broke his heart." He'd scoff.
"I wish he'd kiss me instead..." Completely gone for him.
"As If! He left me here so screw that. I don't want to kiss his stinking perfectly plump, rosey pink, pretty lips that probably taste like strawberries and marshmallows."
His usual train of thoughts would somehow always end up around Captain's mouth. Or any other intimate moment he'd imagine them into, and that only made him cry harder.
Tonight was no different.
He was curled up on the living room sofa, hugging his knees to his chest- his mind drifting to seemingly insignificant distant memories of his time with him, that he took for granted in all the years they've known each other.
Now they were coming back to haunt him, remind him how comforting his presence always was and how much he fucked it all up in only a single moment of frustration.
Captain didn't deserve any of it and Tae hated himself for every single word he uttered that day.
The slight drizzle and pitter patter of raindrops on the windows were the only sounds inside the deafening silence of the apartment.
Tae was slowly losing his mind- caught between his stubborn refusal to acknowledge the ever growing feelings in his heart and his incessant need to cling to his best friend like his life depends on it.
Before long, he drifted off into a peaceful sleep, though his mind was still tormented by the absence of the older man.
Maybe he knew tonight would be different deep down, that this night might change everything he once thought was possible. Maybe he felt the shift approaching before it even made its presence known to him.
He hadn't slept peacefully since the moment Captain left his orbit- yet tonight he was lulled to sleep in the blink of an eye.
Captain unlocked the door to their apartment and quietly walked in, not wanting to disturb Tae. The boy was probably still working into the night, like he always did. Exhausting himself from the stress and responsibilities he carries.
A lot of the time Captain wished he could just shut off his computer and physically drag him outside to have some actual fun, before he was entirely consumed by data, binary numbers and algorithms.
Sometimes he did pester and nag him until he caved and spared them a few moments outside his coding world. But it didn't come without constant protests and whining from his friend.
The last few weeks have been really hard on him.
He missed Tae so much, but this time away also made him reflect on himself and being more mindful of how other people feel when he unknowingly starts chattering without considering the person that has to listen to him.
