|^|Sharing Your Chew Toy|^| - Dandys World

Start from the beginning

As if Astro could read his mind, he bent down and gently patted his head, "Hey, don't worry, you'll be able to get back onto runs tomorrow, maybe it's for the best you take today off!"

Pebble huffed and sulked back to his bed.

It felt like his fears were coming true. Did the others like Coal more then him now? What if they no longer wanted Pebble on runs anymore?

Pebbled curled up tighter, like he was expecting sleep to block out the thoughts, even though he knew it would be pointless.

His thoughts were plagued by Coal for what felt like years. He knew jealousy was wrong, but he couldn't help it. He couldn't think of anything that made Coal interesting to the others, other then being a dog, like him. Why did everyone seem to love her more then him now?

The hours passed by slowly, before finally, Pebble heard the bustling of toons coming out of the elevators. All talking about either getting food, or some much needed rest.

Pebble stepped out into the hallway, forcing his tail to wag, to mask that he was upset. It worked, as toons passed by and gave him some pats.

"Hope you had a good break!" Some would say.

"Glad you're not too upset." Others would chuckle.

Then he caught sight of Coal, and he had to force himself to look away to keep from glaring at her.

She barely acknowledged the other toons as they praised her after that good run. If that were me, I'd be a lot more grateful. Pebble thought bitterly.

He huffed and turned away. This jealousy was getting the better of him, he thought with shame. If the others knew what he was thinking, they'd be disappointed in him. He had to get a grip.

"UGH, YOU'RE SO ANNOYING!" Shrimpo's loud voice stopped Pebble in his tracks. He was used to Shrimpo yelling for no reason, so he usually ignored him. But this time, his curiosity got the better of him and he followed the direction of the angry shrimp's voice.

"YOU'RE SO BIG, YOU JUST GET IN THE WAY!"

Pebble rounded the corner, and blinked in surprise when he saw Shrimpo yelling at...

...Coal.

And for the first time, he saw an actual emotion on her face.

  Fear.

It was obvious she was not used to Shrimpo's anger issues as much as the other toons, so she shrank back at his loud voice.

"I HONESTLY DONT EVEN KNOW WHY YOU'RE HERE. BUT YOUR PRESENCE IS ANNOYING, AND I HATE IT."

Pebble felt a growl crawl up his throat. Why couldn't Shrimpo be a bit nicer to the newer toons? Or if he was gonna just say something mean, just keep it to himself?

"IT MAKES SENSE THAT BAD KIDS GET COAL FOR CHRISTMAS!"

Oh that's it. That was that last straw.

Pebble bolted forward and stopped right in front of Coal. He barked furiously which made Shrimpo stumble back in surprise.

"WHA-PEBBLE, YOU TOO!? YOU'RE EVEN MORE ANNOYING, AT LEAST COAL KNOWS HOW TO KEEP QUIET!"

You're one to talk! Pebble growled and then nipped at his ankles. Not actually making contact, it was more to serve as a warning bite.

"AUGH-FINE IM GOING! THIS DOESNT MEAN I ADMIT DEFEAT, I JUST REALLY HATE DOGS!" Shrimpo stomped away furiously.

When Shrimpo was out of sight, Pebble turned to Coal, checking to see if the shrimp had hurt her at all.

She looked fine. In fact, she looked happy, wearing her first smile he's seen ever since she got here.

Her tail wagged slowly, but happily. She then leaned forward and gently nudged Pebble with her cheek, showing her gratitude.

Pebble was unable to keep his own tail from wagging. Any feeling of jealousy completely wiped as he nudged her back.

He now realized how wrong he was about her, he didn't need or want to feel jealous about her, now wishing he had just gotten along with her instead of letting his pride get the better of him.

"Pebble, Coal! Are you guys ok?" Pebble instantly recognized the voice of his owner, and saw the flower toon running up to them, "I heard Shrimpo yelling, he wasn't yelling at you, was he?"

Pebble let out a huff, confirming Dandy's suspicions.

Dandy sighed, "Thought so, wish u could get him to stop with that awful attitude, but that's like trying to ask the sun to stop shining. Anyways, you guy's aren't hurt are you?"

It was Coal who responded with a small shake of her head, before gently nudging Pebble.

Dandy blinked, "Pebble stopped Shrimpo from hurting you? Heh, good job, buddy!" The flower leaned down and pet Pebble, "always looking out for others! And I had a hunch you two would get along."

Pebble smiled at Coal, and she softly smiled back. It may have been a bit of a rocky start (no pun intended), at least for Pebble. He was just glad he let go of his jealousy and realize that Coal wasn't anywhere near as bad he he first thought, not even close. Now they can finally get to properly know each other.

Guess he wasn't wrong about things being able to change in just a week!

Wow, finally got this done- I've been procrastinating in this for a while now, honestly thought I was gonna give up on this, BUT NOPE
And I'm glad I finished it, even if I feel like the ending is a bit rushed, oh well!
I say this every time-but I'm hopefully gonna be writing more again! I have another amazing digital circus fanfiction on its way! Pray it doesn't take half a year to get out haha- :,D
Anyways, thank you so much for reading, and have a good day or night! <3
