A day that was meant to be like any other. The sun was shining through the clouds drifting about the sky, illuminating the vibrant green of grass scattered about the Iconic Green Hill. And as everything was calm and peaceful, a familiar blue blur streaked through the landscape. This was none other than the worlds famous savior and chili dog enthusiast, Sonic the Hedgehog. He'd basically grown up in Green Hill, even if he didn't have a set home to return to at the end of a busy day, he still saw the entire landscape as his home. Where he could return to at any time and it would all feel like home. But today was different.
The Green Hills were still there, but Sonic noticed a collection of sand hidden within the grass. He skidded to a stop as he knelt down and wiped his glove through the green blades, seeing specs of the stuff stick to his glove. "That's weird." Sonic muttered, "The desert shouldn't be so close as to clog up the grass with sand. Cleaning this up is gonna be such a chore." Familiar with the landscape and wary of the desert seemingly begining to spill into Green Hill, Sonic quickly took off for a high vantage point, choosing the top of one of the many naturally forming loops to scan the vicinity.
And sure enough, sand was absolutely everywhere, brushing through the hills thanks to the unnaturally close desert. However, Sonic was soon able to spot the cause of the disturbed land. In the distance, he could see a giant worm snaking its way out of the sandy ground and back into it, pushing the sand into Green Hill. "Man, look at the size of that thing!" Sonic said to no one in particular, "I guess all kinds of things show up when your neighborhood turns into a desert. Better get it back to where it belongs."
With that, Sonic leapt off of the top of the loop and landed with a boost of speed, quickly closing the distance between him and the giant worm. With a rumble, the worm tore out of the ground, quickly noticing the blue blur as Sonic ran up its body to get to the head. "Look buddy, you're not meant to be here. So I'm gonna need you to get back to the desert." Sonic said as he jumped, doing a front flip into a kick on the things head to get its attention before running off.
Like he'd expected, the worm gave chase, and burrowed under the sand to move faster. Sonic had a slight amount of trouble running across the sandy terrain, but it wasn't enough of an issue for him to lose speed. And soon enough, he was in the desert in question, seeing the cause for the worms displacement in the distance. A giant mechanical bird was perched on a desert outcrop, scanning the surrounding area for signs of movement.
"Ah, go figure it'd be cause of him." Sonic said knowingly, "Eggman's up to his old tricks again." Sonic's mind drifted back to the mad doctor as he took off with a burst of speed to take out the mech. He and the once Dr. Robotnik had crossed paths when he was young, and the doctor was stealing animals from Green Hill to power his instruments of war. Of course, Sonic put a stop to him. But Robotnik had seemingly developed an obsession with defeating the meddlesome hedgehog, and the two had been at it ever since.
Fast forward several years and the now dubbed Eggman was a constant thorn in the hedgehogs side, usually up to some sort of scheme to take over the world. Sonic then looked to his wrist, where a special stone bracelet with a glowing green gem served as a reminder of the time he'd almost succeeded. Sonic got back to the real world as he'd managed to climb onto the mech, causing it to take off and start twirling in the air to shake the hedgehog.
But he held on tight as he curled into a ball and smashed against the mech, slowly causing it to short circuit and eventually break down. With a massive 'THOOM' it crashed back to the surface, and Sonic rolled away in a slight daze before looking at his work. "There. Now we won't have to change the name to 'Sand Hill'." Sonic said as he thought about how the mech had almost been taken down too easily.
But his thoughts were broken by a buzz on a communicator he stored under his glove, made by his little brother, Tails. He looked to it and answered the call, "Hello? Sonic speaking." "Sonic! I finally made it through!" Came the familiar feminine voice of Amy Rose, a girl who'd once had a massive crush on Sonic, but was now a close ally to the hedgehog.
