She didn't know where she was, only that her feet were moving. The road beneath her shoes was cracked and dusty, lined with crooked fences and forgotten corners. The wind tugged gently at her sleeves, but the world around her felt quiet, still, as though it was holding its breath.

She walked slowly, not because she was lost—
but because she didn't know if she wanted to be found. Her thoughts wandered far ahead of her steps, restless and wild, always reaching for something just beyond her grasp.

And then, she looked up. There it was-slicing through the pale blue sky with silent grace. A shape unlike anything she had ever truly noticed before. Metallic. Distant. Majestic in a way she didn't yet understand.

She blinked and stared, squinting into the sunlight.
It moved so effortlessly, carried by air alone, it seemed. She tilted her head. "What... is that?" she whispered aloud. "A bird?" No. Not quite.

It was too big.
Too smooth.
Too perfectly strange.

But in her heart, she called it a Big Bird, because that made the most sense to her. Because she needed it to be something magical, something that didn't belong to the ordinary world.

And in a way, it was. The sight of it sparked something small and quiet in her chest. A flutter. A hum. Something like hope.

From that day on, every time she stepped outside,
her eyes would drift upward, searching the sky for the Big Bird.

Sometimes she saw it.
Most times she didn't.

But even in its absence, she imagined it. Flying far above cities she'd never seen, crossing oceans she'd never touched, carrying people who were going somewhere-anywhere.

And it made her wonder:
What would it feel like to fly that high?
To chase something unknown?
To belong to the sky instead of the ground?

That's when her dream began. It wasn't loud or sudden. It didn't announce itself with purpose or certainty. It was quiet. Gentle. Like a whisper that returned every time she looked up.

And over time, that dream became her favorite part of herself.
