Chapter 1: School

Kaylee's POV

"Oh, you're already up," my mom said as she walked into my room.

"Yup," I said as I ran my straightener through my hair.

"I'm going to take your siblings to school, and then I'll be back for you," she said.

"Alright," I said, continuing to do my hair.

I'm Kaylee Biersack and I'm 14 years old. Today is my first day of high school. My younger sister Kylie is in 4th grade and my younger brother Ben is in 1st grade. Since they are so much younger than me, I'm not super close with my siblings. I tend to keep to myself, and the same trend happens at school.

I don't really have any friends at school. I had a friend in middle school, but she moved to a different state over the summer. I kind of like being alone though, I've gotten used to it. I'm not really bullied either. People mostly just leave me alone.

Since my siblings are younger, I've become rather independent, not relying on either of my parents for much of anything. I know how to cook basic meals, I wake myself up in the mornings, I do my own laundry. My mom likes that I'm independent, but my dad wishes I relied on him for more things.

Kylie and I switch off weeks with our parents. Next week, the two of us will go stay with my dad. I definitely have a stronger relationship with my dad while Kylie clings to our mom more. I like being at my dad's, mainly because I like being around him. He's funny and he devotes all of his time to us when we are with him. I also like being at my mom's because she tends to leave me alone.

The only time our schedule is different is when my dad goes on tour, which is at least once a year. His band has really ramped up and they go on tour a lot more often than they used to. When he's on tour, we stay at our mom's house. We will typically stay at our dad's the week before and the week after tour, since it's usually months he goes without seeing us. There's been a few tours that he has brought us out for a weekend when they're in California, but that's not often. When the band plays in LA, Jinxx's wife, Alice, will typically pick us up to go see their show. My mom says she refuses to go see them play anymore.

My parents don't get along, not even a little bit. When we are dropped off at the other's house, they wait in their cars for us to go into the house. They talk as little as possible, only uniting for school events and birthdays. My mom is always talking negatively about my dad, my dad tries to watch what he says about her, but sometimes it will slip out.

"Kaylee! Let's go!" my mom called from downstairs.

"In a minute!" I called back, tying my shoes.

"I have to go to work! Now!" she commanded. I sighed and stood up, grabbing my backpack. I slung it over my shoulder and started down the stairs.

"I could just take the bus," I muttered as I walked out the front door.

"Then take the fucking bus. I'm doing this to be nice," my mom snapped, locking the front door and following me to the car. We got in and she began the drive to my school.

"Bye," I said as she pulled up to the curb, opening the door before she had come to a complete stop.

"Love you," she called with a smile.
