Y/N was walking towards her favorite spot to think after a long day, the cliffside edge of Green Hills where nobody would go to bother her with questions or quarries.

Her mind was a mess of clouded emotions, for the past three months herself and Shadow have become close, maybe too close some would even say. The usually stoic hedgehog found comfort in her presence and would often become overbearing or possessive.

The problem with this wasn't nearly as obvious as it should be, Y/N loved it. Her emotions were a swirl of conflict as her own desires and dignity tussel in her mind. The sexual tension that has been brewing between herself and Shadow has become almost suffocating.

Y/N finally reaches the cliffside, a perfect view of Green Hills, the blooming beaches and soft waves, the way the palm trees sway at night was calming despite her clouded judgement. Her dress blows wistfully in the cool breeze as she sits at the very edge, her quills ruffled by her own thoughts.

Around ten minutes pass by of Y/N being completely eloped in her thoughts despite herself. She lets out a quiet hum as she twirls her quills between her fingers thoughtlessly. Suddenly a soft crunching was heard behind it.

Y/N snaps her head around and narrows her eyes as she finally spots Shadow who was seemingly lost in his own head aswell. Y/N offers a small smile as she clicks her tongue to draw his attention.

Shadow looks up suddenly, stopping dead in his tracks as he looks to her. His usual cold and stoic bravado falter slightly was the starlight highlights his softening expression upon seeing Y/N.

Y/N pats the grass beside her in an inviting way. "You come here to?" A hint of concern in her voice as she looks up at Shadow.

Shadow sighs and nods curtly while approaching her, he sits down next to her but his gaze was focused on the view in front of him. His expression nearly unreadable. "Needed to clear my head, you're out late." He deadpans.

Y/N scoffs slightly, she looks at Shadows crimson eyes for a moment before turning her gaze to the view as well, another soft breeze blowing between them as the tension in the air grows. "Yeah well... I needed to clear my head to." Her voice slightly unsteady as she feels the heat radiating from Shadows body at their closeness. 

Shadow listens intently, his own emotions betraying his pride as he grunts in acknowledgment. Shadow takes a moment to gather his thoughts before speaking in a more hushed tone. "I've been... overprotective. I know you're your own person but, something about you just makes me want to protect you." A hint of vulnerability crosses his stoic expression.

Y/N's gaze softens as she glances over at Shadow for a moment, her face flushes slightly as she hums in acknowledgment. She fights to keep her voice steady despite her racing heart. "I never saw it as a bad thing... honestly. I know you've been through a lot, so have I..." She lets out a shaky breath before continuing. "I just want to know how you really feel, Shadow..."

Shadow finally turns his head, his expression soft as his voice deepens at her uncertainty, Shadow was never good with his feelings not since Maria passed but something about Y/N gave him that hope he thought he had lost for good. "Y/N... I- I care, more than I probably should. I feel like pull to you, and I don't know how much longer I can deny it."

Y/N's heart skips a beat at his confession, she swallows hard while searching his crimson orbs for any sign of uncertainty or deceipt. Her heart only races more when she finds none. "Shadow... I feel it to." She gently reaches out, brushing her paw against his muzzle with upmost care.
