Ch. 4

Not long after we return to the red gateway, the once tight grip on each other's hand softly distances itself. I could feel the burning sensation in my face, yet Shadow seemed completely unfazed.

"Can you see what's happening yet?" Shadow shares a glance between the gateway and me. I look down at my hands, the soft glow of energy emitting from them. I feel more charged up than I had previously, though I'm unsure why.

"I- I think so, suddenly I feel more like myself." I step closer once again to the gateway, I glide my fingers against it and close my eyes. 

'Deep breaths'

My once ghostly appearance now felt more, fleshy? 

"Who are you?!" A nervous voice questions someone. 

The room had an ominous red glow, it was dimly lit, and the sound of screaming and metal hitting the ground could be heard close by. Followed by multiple voices and a pounding against a door. 

The deep thought I was once it was replaced quickly by a hand on my shoulder. "Shadow not now." I squirm away from the touch.

 I quickly realise the question that was asked was- for me! 'I'm here, actually inside a gateway flesh and all, a temporary bound body.'

"Shadow?!" A more perky voice speaks, I snap my eyes completely open and turn to see that Shadow is NOT who put a hand on my shoulder, but it was Sonic.

"S-Sonic?" I quickly look around again and at my own hands, which were glowing very bright with prism energy, a rainbow hue surrounding me. 

"What's going on, how do you know who Shadow is? Who are you and where is the paradox prism?!" Sonic began to ask too many questions way too quickly.

"Sonic, I don't have time to explain, my energy is growing weaker. Listen to-" I look to see who cut me off.

A fox. His demeanor was nothing short of aggressive.

"Why would we listen to you? You just appeared out of thin air and now expect us to follow your orders?!" His voice was young and had an angst to it, he did not enjoy my presence.

I scoff at his remark and shake off the thoughts of my old fox friend, this was someone new. "Sonic it's all broken, you need to get- AGH." 

A sharp surge of energy flows through me, I feel my knees buckle as Sonic grabs ahold of me, propping me back up, "Hey, I got you, it's okay." Sonic winks and wears a gentle smile on his face.

I feel my face flush red, and I notice his does ever so slightly in return, those bright emerald eyes stare back at my bright purple. "Okay, Sonic, everyone is depending on you, be careful. There are other shards-"

"What?!" "What?!" Both the fox and Sonic say at the same time. "I know it-"

"Yeah, you sound crazy and neither of us know who you are, I think I can handle this, Sonic, grab the shard."

"Nine- we need to hear-"

"No, there's no time the eggforcers are going to be in here soon, you need to grab it now!" His voice firm and his expression shows nothing but anger, while Sonic gives me a soft look as he notices I start to slowly fade into a ghostly form.

"Sonic please," I beg him, my voice filled with static as I feel myself get pulled away.

'No no c'mon not yet'

I try to fight getting control over my powers back, but once again I am met with Shadow's ruby eyes, his expression was unreadable.

"Shadow, we need to back up," I say weakly, without hesitation, Shadow jumps to a rock in the distance ever so slightly. I use all my strength to follow after him, before we could get a word in, there it was.
