Chapter Twelve - Little Bird, Broken Cage
2nd Person POV
Y/N Code Name: ROBIN
The door closed behind you with a final, metallic clang and darkness swallowed the corridor.
But you didn't need light. You knew this kind of dark. You were born in it.Boots silent on the cracked tile, pistol raised, heart steady.
And then his voice rang again. "You wear a Robin patch."
You stopped. Voron's voice echoed down the hall like static clinging to your skin.
"Lttle robin. My little bird." He mused.
You didn't answer.
Just moved toward the sound, slow, deliberate, corner by corner. The walls dripped with old water damage, the remnants of frost clinging to rusted pipes. The cold was everywhere now. In your breath. In your bones.
"They called you a hero, didn't they? After the uprising. Said you were brave. Clever." Voron's voice sounded amused. "But I knew better. You were always just broken."
Your grip on your sidearm tightened. You stepped through a half-shattered doorway. And there he was. Standing in the center of the room, exactly as he used to. Same coat. Same posture.
And behind him?
Two figures.
The woman and her daughter.
Tied. On their knees. Faces bloodied. Duct tape across their mouths. Shaking.
Your heart didn't skip.
It stopped.
"Let them go," you said. Your voice didn't shake.
Voron smiled. "Not until we finish our reunion, little bird."
You moved into the room slowly, barrel still trained on his chest. He didn't flinch. "You survived longer than I expected," you said. "After I put a bullet in you."
He chuckled. "You almost hit my heart. Missed by inches. Still have the scar." He opened his coat to reveal the faded mark on his chest. A twisted, puckered reminder.
"I should've aimed lower." You sneered.
"You were a child." Voron waved as he reclothed himself.
"I was your prisoner." You barked.
His smile faded. "I never saw you as a prisoner. You were... special."
You nearly pulled the trigger right then. He noticed. "But you weren't ready then. Not for what you are now."
"You tortured me." Your voice cracked.
"I shaped you." Voron corrected.
"You killed my mother." You add.
"She was weak." He shrugged.
Your body went cold. Colder than before. "Say that again," you said.
He smiled again. Like he wanted you to. You didn't shoot. Not yet. Voron gestured lazily at the two captives. "You know what I'm capable of."
He stepped behind them, placing a hand on the girl's shoulder. She flinched violently.
You took a step forward. "Don't."
"I told you to come alone, and you did. That's good. That means you still remember how to follow orders." He leaned close to the girl's ear.
"She's a pretty one. Reminds me of you. Do you remember the snow? When I made you kneel in it for hours because you disobeyed?" He ran a finger along her cheek.
