"Yeah, sorry, I dropped my phone. So, anyway, yeah, sure! I'll be there, Jason."

"Yeah?"

I sighed heavily, and forced myself to sound cheery.

"Of course! Just message me the details."

"You promise to be there?"

"I promise."

"Alright. Great! How are you?"

And just when I was about to answer him, I heard Scarlett in the background calling for him.

"Hey, I'm sorry, that was Scar. I might have to cut this short for now, but I'll message you the whole nine yards later. Sounds great?"

"Yeah, su—."

Click. He hangs up.

I pocket my phone, and button my denim jacket as a cool breeze passed by.

I resume walking home in the gloomy Thursday afternoon, ignoring the tears streaking down my face.

III. It's What You Do To Me

It's the weekend, so here I am drinking champagne and having fun with my friends.

We usually meet every weekend to unwind and suppress all the stress that piled up during those five hell days.

For me, I especially want to suppress the event that happened last Thursday.

After that call, Jason messaged me at eight in the evening laying out all the wedding details. I learned that he and Scarlett are currently in Paris but wants to have their wedding ceremony in our hometown. We also exchanged how are you's and updated each other on our lives.

Thursday actually ended pretty well, if you ask me, but my heart is still aching from the fact that Jason is about to get married in two weeks.

But hey, it's the weekend!

I compose myself, and literally forced my mind to not think about what happened two days ago.

No one can ruin my weekends, but not this weekend.

I am busy chatting with my friends when my phone suddenly rang. I look at the screen, and I can immediately feel my heart beating faster.

It's Jason.

I excuse myself, and head outside.

My best friend, Ashley, owns this beautiful two-story home that has an amazing view of the city. She lives an hour away from the metropolitan area, so my friends usually spend our weekends here for some peace and quiet.

On Saturdays, after we do our errands, we gather and have a mini "girls night out". We drink champagne, eat lots of carbs, and dance until 2AM.

On Sundays, when we feel a bit overwhelmed, we lay out Ashley's cozy blue outdoor blanket and have a picnic at her backyard where we drink our jasmine teas and eat some fruits while reading our Stephenie Meyer books.

Today's a Saturday, and I should be drowning in champagne and dancing my heart out, but here I am at my best friend's balcony, getting cold, and looking at the city lights while debating whether to answer my phone or not.

I answer, though.

"Jason?"

"Hi, sorry I know it's late but.." He paused then snorts. After a few seconds of silence, he heavily sighed then spoke.

"I can't do it."

"What do you mean, Jason?"

"I can't do it. I can't marry her."
