I miss his smile, the sound of his voice, the rush of his skin, and the still of his silence as he breathes out and I breathe in. I miss him, not knowing if he feels the same.
II. Smother Me
It's a gloomy Thursday afternoon, and I'm walking home from work when I suddenly receive a call.
I stop to check the caller, and it's from an unknown number. I don't usually pick up calls from unknown numbers but I am waiting for a call from the delivery company for my parcels.
"Hello?" I asked, while I walk to the sides to avoid bumps and traffic from the people walking.
"Hey there!" The voice was cheerful and it sounds so familiar.
"Uhh.. Who's this?"
"It's me, Jason!"
Upon hearing those words, my heart beats faster, and my hands begin to sweat. Suddenly, it feels like the weather's not gloomy anymore.
"Hello?"
"Oh, sorry. Hi!" I cheerfully replied. "What's up?" I got so excited to talk to him that I forgot to ask where he got my number.
"Well..." He was hesitant at first but then, "I'm calling to invite you to my wedding."
It became gloomy again.
Married?
Jason calls me after years of no communication, and now he is telling me that he's about to get married?
Not just that, but he's inviting me to his wedding!
I don't understand.
I mean, where did he even get my number? And where is he even right now?
"I know this is so sudden but I'm getting married in two weeks, and I want you to be there."
What?
"Oh.."
"Yeah. And before you get more confused, I got your number from Ashley."
My mind is racing, and I still don't understand any of this but I still live in dork territory so I ask, "Who are you getting married to?"
Jason softly chuckles. "I'm getting married to Scarlett."
"Oh!" I exclaimed, unexpectedly.
"I know, and it's all because of you. My heroine! That's why I'm calling to invite you."
He probably said a hundred words since calling me earlier, but only two words registered in my brain.
My heroine.
Even after all these years, Jason's words still leave a pretty great impact to me. I am still easily swayed by the way he says things, and by the way he is wording every sentence.
And I might feel like dying from the fact that he is marrying the woman that I helped six years ago, but she's still his woman.
His happiness.
How in the world can I not be happy for the person who gives me happiness?
How can I ruin such a blissful moment for him just because I am still stuck at the past?
All this time I was gripping my mobile phone so hard that it fell down from my sweaty, clammy palms.
I clumsily picked up my phone, and just when I was bringing it back to my right ear, I hear Jason asking, "Is everything alright?"
