30| Ruby, Ruby, come back!

Start from the beginning

You're okay.
You're real.
Think about Nico.
He's thinking about you.
He promised.

I try my hardest to make his face out in my imagination, but my brain feels slow and foggy, like I'm forgetting my whole entire life just by one needle.

Nico. Nico. Nico. Nico. Nico. Nico. Nico. Nico.

I make myself not forget my own self.

Kathrine ashbourne. Seventeen. Guitar. Singing. Stars. Blue. My boyfriend.

Same type of trees stand around me, repeating over and over again, as if it's a forever going maze, that I'm never getting out of.

My feet is bare and only thing protecting me from the chilling breeze is a white sleep dress.

Why is it cold? It's may.

I spin around, trying to look my way out of there, everything looks the same.

Tall trees, clear sky, and muddy ground.

"Katie! Katie!" I hear Ruby call cheerfully, goosebumps break on my body just by her voice.
I twirl around, trying to follow her voice.

Her whole body is covered behind a tree, only her head is peeking out.
Her long, brown hair, she loves so much is flowing with the wind.
She's smiling, a real, huge smile, she only does that when she isn't mad at me.
Which is rare because she usually is.
Mum says it's because she's a teenager and teenagers struggle to love their younger siblings.

"Hi, Ruby!" I call back, just as excited as she seems.

"Katie!" she yells. her eyes going wide as they flicker behind me. She looks scared. Terrified even.
Why? Ruby is always fearless, even when dad gets drunk and angry, she still stands her ground and yells at him back.
I want to be like her.

I follow her gaze, my body going numb when I see a old man from my nightmares, fully in black, staring at me.

Oh no.

"Hi, Katie." This is the first time he talked directly at me. Usually he stares at me in my nightmares, and talks to me when I'm awake in my head. His voice is like a demon growl. Making whole Forest shake just a tiny bit.

"Katie, come on!" Ruby yells, urgently.

I want to run to her, I really do.
But my legs aren't moving.
It's like I'm paralyzed.

"KATIE, KATIE, COME HERE, FAST!" Ruby is now yelling ok top of her lungs. Same way mum was crying when she saw my bleed to death after cutting to close to bone.

"What do you want?" I ask the man in black, because he keeps following me around everywhere I go. I want to know what he wants from me so I can give it to him.

"You need to die." He says, his face is blurry, but his eyes shine the sharpest light ever. Red and full of hatred. "Die. Die. Die." He keeps on repeating the same word.

I glance back at Ruby, and my heart drops to the bottom on the floor. She isn't covered by a tree anymore.

I can see her body now.

Her clothes are dump and bloody, and her wrists are dripping blood with a deep cut on them.

Just like the day she left, her skin is pale and lifeless. Her eyes are dim. Her lips dry. And her chest not coming and falling like it should.

RUBY'S DEAD.

Run as fast as you can!

Run!

I take all the strength I have and make myself run.
No idea where I'm going.
No idea if I'm alive.
No idea if I want to be alive.
Only thing I know is I have to run.

Away from them.

"YOU CAN'T RUN AWAY FROM THE TRUTH, KATIE." someone says so loudly, it almost sounds like it's into my head, so loud and deep, it's making my ears shake "YOU NEED TO DIE. ITS YOUR DESTINY."

ignore it.
Ignore it.
Ignore.
Ignore.

The deeper I run into the woods the foggier it becomes.
Untill it's all foggy.
All I'm able to see is white air that hurts my eyes.

"MAKE EVERYONE HAPPY AND DIE." the voice says again "YOU'RE USLESS." shut up "DIE LIKE RUBY DID."  please stop "YOU DESERVE A SLOW, PAINFUL, DEATH."

Maybe I do....

I wake up, drenched in sweat, I breath in a sharpest breath possible, and try not to think about Ruby's face when she looked at me.

Or the scary man telling me to die-

No. No. Just think about something that makes you happy.

I try to imagine what Nico's doing right now, a painful throb goes to me, because I don't deserve that boy. He's too good to be curropted by my demons.

He protects me from them, but, who'll protect him from me?

He deserves someone with a shine, and future. Not a crazy chick who doesn't know what's real and what's not sometimes.

I need to let him go.

I need to set him free.
