The sun hadn't even risen yet, and the parking lot that housed all of the trailers was bustling. The air was cool and dry, still clinging to the edges of dawn. Pale light stretched across the pavement, catching on puddles left by an overnight sprinkler. The lot smelled like wet asphalt and stale coffee. Joanna walked across the lot, like she'd done it a thousand times, her long ginger hair pulled into its usual tight knot atop her head, curls still escaping in stubborn spirals. The faded denim jacket she wore had threads coming loose at the cuffs- she liked it that way.

Her boots made soft scuffs on the pavement as she moved towards the wardrobe trailer. Her fingers gripped her coffee cup like a lifeline, still too hot to sip. It was her second morning on this particular set, and she already knew how to stay invisible.

Just the way she liked it.

Her phone buzzed against the side of her coat

I MESSAGE

8:00 AM

We're all getting laid + Joanna

Mosbie

Someone tell Jo to bring me my dignity back from set.

I think I left it there.

Big boy Nico

She's not your personal assistant.

Judge Jamie

She kinda is, emotionally.

Jojo

Blocked and reported.

You'll hear from my lawyer.

Mosbie

Your lawyer is Genevieve, and she's on my side.

Joanna smiled, small and private as she typed.

Jojo

I'll bring you a bagel if you leave me alone

for 6-8 business hours.

She turned off her screen and slid her phone back into her pocket.
