The rooftop felt different now.
Not just a place where secrets were passed through notes.
A place where Yuma had heard Jo say it out loud.
"I like you."
And Yuma had said it back.
Now they were both standing there, hands still intertwined, eyes soft, hearts still racing.
Jo peeked at him nervously. "Um... so this is real, right?"
Yuma's smile was so warm it made Jo's face turn pink all over again.
"Yeah," Yuma said softly. "It's real. I'm yours, if you want me to be."
Jo blinked, lips parting slightly.
"I do," he whispered. "I really do."
For a long moment, they stood there just taking each other in. Soft smiles, lingering glances, fingers still laced.
Neither wanted to leave.
But the school was emptying fast, and soon someone might notice.
"We should probably... go," Jo said, though his voice sounded reluctant.
"Yeah," Yuma agreed. "But can we... maybe walk home together?"
Jo's smile turned shy again, but he nodded immediately. "I'd like that."
Down the stairs, they walked close, shoulders brushing once, twice, before Jo finally leaned a little closer on purpose.
It was subtle, but Yuma noticed.
And he smiled, warmth blooming in his chest.
When they reached the front gates, their friends were already gone.
"So," Yuma said softly, pausing. "Do you want to-"
Before he could finish, Jo glanced around quickly before tugging lightly on his hand, pulling him to a quieter spot behind the school wall.
Heart racing, Yuma let himself be guided.
Jo let out a shaky breath. "I've wanted to do this for a long time"
Yuma's heart skipped. "What..?"
Jo's eyes flicked up to meet his, nervous but determined.
Then, slowly, he leaned in and pressed the softest, shyest kiss to Yuma's cheek.
Warm and quick, but so full of meaning it made Yuma's whole body feel like it was floating.
"I'm yours," Jo whispered again, so quietly Yuma barely heard it.
Yuma smiled so wide it made Jo's breath catch.
"I'm yours too," he whispered back, then, heart pounding, leaned in to press an even softer kiss to Jo's cheek in return.
Jo's eyes fluttered shut for a second, then opened, bright and shining.
They both stood there, grinning, blushing, hearts hammering before finally walking off together, fingers brushing again and again until Jo finally, shyly, took Yuma's hand again.
And this time, Yuma squeezed back.
That night, Yuma lay in bed staring at the ceiling, heart still racing.
He could still feel Jo's fingers in his.
Still feel that shy kiss against his cheek.
Still hear those words.
"I'm yours."
He smiled to himself, soft and full of wonder.
He didn't know exactly what tomorrow would bring.
But he knew this:
Jo was his.
And he was Jo's.
Finally.
And as he pulled the covers tighter around him, he couldn't stop the quiet laugh that bubbled out, light and breathless and so full of happiness it made his chest ache.
This is real, he thought. We're real.
His phone buzzed once on his nightstand.
A message.
From Jo.
"Goodnight, Yuma. Sweet dreams. I'm yours."
Yuma's breath caught, eyes stinging in the best way.
Fingers trembling slightly, he replied:
"Goodnight, Jo. I'm yours too. Always."
And with that, heart full and eyes finally closing, Yuma drifted into the softest, sweetest sleep he'd ever known.
