A.N.: Hey, it's Clem! This is my first fanfiction in a while... always open to suggestions!
A part of this chapter is totally inspired by the one meme of Alexei on IG Reels/TikTok (the Sabrina Carpenter one) from drewparker2k! Thank you for the inspiration!
Chapter One
"I've got a tight grip on reality,
But I can't let go of what's in front of me here.
I know you're leaving in the morning when you wake up,
Leave me with some kind of proof it's not a dream."

Avengers Tower
Five months had passed since The Void had left New York City.
And Bob Reynolds, sitting in his chair, was drinking a milkshake (not just any milkshake, though, but a cookies and cream one), looking through an old journal article on his phone.
The New Avengers*: America's Biggest Laughing Stock, read the title, causing Bob to frown.
He's prone to doom scrolling. Honestly, who's surprised?
But that's when Yelena leans over him, grabbing his phone and stuffing it into her pocket. "No more doom scrolling, Bob." She sat next to him, playfully punching his shoulder.
His eyes widened at her.
"Sorry," he said, breathily. "I just got... bored."
"Then we should do something. Maybe— something fun. I don't know."
Bob looked towards the pantry, brows furrowed in curiosity. He adjusted his fluffy, blue robe, reaching for the handle to reveal...
... absolutely nothing to eat.
Defeated, he approaches the couch, sitting back down. "We're..." he says in that soft, velvety voice of his, glancing down at his duck-themed slippers.
"Out of food." He widens his navy blue gaze, pushing back his dark hair with his fingers.
And he laughs, but not because it's funny, because he always laughs when life feels... awkward. Or uncomfortable. It's... easier than facing the situation head-on.
"But it's... it's okay. It's fine." He looked towards the sea of dishes in the sink, approached them, and placed them in the dishwasher.
John Walker likes to tease Bob about the dishes---how they're always clean when he's in the room. And when he takes a step inside the kitchen, rustling his fingers through his sandy blonde hair, he gives him a shit-eating grin.
"Back to work?" he said, jokingly, patting his shoulder. He gets to tease Bob whenever he wants.
He sees him as a younger brother, someone to protect and care for. Siblings make fun of each other. Especially John Walker. That's his job.
His grin softens, and he presses his lips together, amused. "Hey, uh..." he clears his throat, reaching for a coffee mug and pouring the hot liquid inside. "You know, you're doing... great."
